Central Oregon Resort Fights Breast Cancer with Fifth Annual Marathon
The Sunriver Marathon for a Cause raised more than $25,000
for St. Charles Cancer Services
Sunriver, Ore. – Oct. 5, 2015 – Sunriver Resort, a Destination Hotel, is
thrilled to announce their fifth annual Sunriver Marathon for a Cause
raised more than $25,000 for cancer care through the St. Charles
Foundation. This year's event kicked off a new partnership with St.
Charles Cancer Services, the only comprehensive cancer center in the
Central Oregon region. Proceeds from the marathon weekend will support the
leading research, technology and personalized guidance offered by St.
Charles, and ultimately help to deliver the highest level of patient care
to those who need treatment in Central Oregon. Additionally, the funds
raised by the marathon will help support the various treatment offerings at
St. Charles, which include radiation oncology, medical oncology,
integrative therapies, prevention programs, screenings and patient support
services.
"Sunriver Resort is a tremendous community asset. Funds raised from the
Sunriver Marathon for a Cause will stay right here in Central Oregon and
help friends, neighbors and colleagues receiving cancer treatments," stated
Lisa Dobey, Executive Director, St. Charles Foundation.
Approximately 900 participants came out to support the cause and
participate in the numerous races held at Sunriver Resort over Labor Day
Weekend. The growing festival of events' premier race, the Sunriver
Marathon, is distinct for its breathtaking USATF-certified course that
winds through the high desert landscapes of Sunriver, Caldera Springs and
Crosswater. Since it began five years ago, it has become a "must run" event
among Boston qualifiers and first-time marathoners alike.
The resort's annual marathon alone has raised nearly $100,000, since its
launch over Labor Day weekend in 2011, for local organizations in their
efforts to support cancer services in the community.
"Sunriver Resort strives to be a supportive partner to the Central Oregon
community and hosts several fundraisers throughout the year to give back to
the community," said Tom O'Shea, managing director of Sunriver Resort.
"This would not be possible without our key partnerships such as St.
Charles and our sponsors. Equally important is the community at large
which plays a pivotal role in their willingness to volunteer. We are very
proud of the work we accomplish as a community."
