NIKE ACG JOINS 2003 BOULDER BACKROADS MARATHON & HALF MARATHON
BOULDER, Co. (February 18, 2003) – Boulder Backroads Marathon LLC announced
Friday that Nike (NYSE:NKE) All Conditions Gear has signed to be the title
sponsor of the 2003 Boulder Backroads Marathon and Half Marathon. The
agreement positions ACG as the official apparel and footwear partner of the
race, which is now known as the Nike ACG Boulder Backroads Marathon & Half
Marathon. The Backroads returns to the Boulder Reservoir on Sunday,
September 28, 2003.
"The partnership was attractive for a number of reasons," said Rob
Mitchell, Nike ACG Marketing Director. "Nike was founded out of the desire
to make product that improved the runner’s performance. To be able to
extend that support for the sport today, into an outdoor-rich community
like Boulder, is a tremendous opportunity for ACG."
Boulder Backroads Marathon LLC echoed the sentiment. "The partnership
between Boulder Backroads Marathon and Nike ACG brings together Colorado’s
premier distance race event with the world’s leading sports brand," said

In addition to the full and half marathon races, the Backroads also plays
host to a number of events in Boulder over race weekend, including an
all-day Expo at the Millennium Harvest House Hotel, featuring an
interactive spectator festival, including films, educational clinics, and
exhibitions for the entire family. Nike ACG joins Clif Bar and Clif Shot,
Accelerade, Runner’s World, TrailRunner, Galyan’s, Guinness, Conor
O’Neill’s, Boulder Fit/Denver Fit, and Team in Training in sponsoring the
Boulder Backroads. Conor O’Neill’s will also be the site of two parties
this year, both before and after the race, as part of the Backroad’s
