Beardsley Marathon Running Camp Set for June 2003
You don't need to pack your bags yet, but you should probably call your
running buddies and make your plans and reservations. The ever-popular
Dick Beardsley-marathon champion, TV and radio personality, expert
fishing guide, and motivational speaker-is embarking on a new venture that
is bound to make long-distance runners happy: launching a marathon running
camp, set for June 8-13, 2003.
Dick's camp participation isn't just that of a celebrity with a glorious
running past lending his name for promotional purposes. Dick, who is back
competing as a competitive masters runner, will be teaching, training, and
running alongside all his camp participants. Dick says enthusiastically,
"I'm so excited about camp. We will be running on the peaceful trails and
back roads on Northern Minnesota, where the beautiful call of the loons will
lull you to sleep at night and greet you to a new day the next morning."
Limited to ONLY 50 registrants, Dick's camp is open to marathoners aged 18
and older (teen campers are also welcome with a parent or guardian also
registered at camp). Daily seminars and runs will focus on the specifics
that runners need to become better marathoners. Runs will include hill
training, tempo running, long-distance running, and speed work. Camp fees
include 12 of 14 meals, coaching, seminars, a 1-year subscription to
Marathon & Beyond magazine, camp goodies and much more.
The camp's location will be as inspiring as Dick himself-the peaceful and
scenic grounds of Rainbow Resort (www.rainbowresort.com) near Waubun, MN,
roughly 4.5 hours northwest of the Twin Cities. Staff and runners will share
modern 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom family style vacation lake homes or cabins
with all the comforts of home. The only resort on Little Bemidji Lake,
Rainbow Resort is located on more than 400 acres, has miles and miles of
private trails, and more than a half mile of shoreline. In addition to all
the great running, camp participants can enjoy many other activities,
including fishing with Dick, swimming, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking,
disc golf, pontoon rides, trail rides, volleyball, and more. Side trips to
cool places nearby are also on the schedule.
Dick has assembled a fantastic staff to join him-Joe Henderson, Rich Benyo,
Rhonda Provost, Bill Wenmark, Mike Dunlap, and Jan Seeley, who will be on
site all week for runs, seminars, meals, and endless one-on-one time with
camp participants. Camp director Jan Seeley reports that response to Dick's
camp has very positive, leading to a 40 percent enrollment by early
December 2002.
