The Race Begins as the ING New York City Marathon 2006
Opens for Registration
NEW YORK - (March 1, 2006) - The race for a spot in the ING New York City
Marathon 2006 began March 1 as New York Road Runners opened online
registration for the event at noon EST.
Applications for the ING New York City Marathon 2006 are available at
www.INGNYCMarathon.org. Applications will be accepted until 11:59pm on
June 1, 2006, for U.S. lottery applicants or May 1, 2006, for international
lottery applicants and U.S. applicants with guaranteed entry. Lottery
drawings will be held to select race entrants.
"The amazing race that is the ING New York City Marathon starts today, and
for thousands of fortunate runners it will end on Sunday, November 5, on the
streets of New York City as they take part in the experience of a lifetime,"
said ING New York City Marathon race director and New York Road Runners
president and CEO Mary Wittenberg.
Competition for the coveted entries is projected to be fierce again this
year, with more than 90,000 people from around the globe expected to apply.
Some 35,000 finishers are anticipated.
The race, which boasts a world-class professional field, was also announced
earlier this year as one of five races in the inaugural World Marathon
Majors Series. Other marathons in the series are the Flora London Marathon,
the Boston Marathon, the real Berlin Marathon, and the LaSalle Bank Chicago
Marathon.

ING New York City Marathon
