"Great running weather-flat/fast course" (about: 2009)

Weather conditions were outstanding for a marathon. The course was relatively flat. The only area of concern is that the right turn after the bridge needs one more sentry for traffic control. Pre- and post-race festivities were outstanding (free); awards took place very quickly; and music was relaxing and refreshing as we ate and waited for awards. Race Director Chris Watson and his volunteers did an outstanding job with the race.

The organization was top-notch to match the beautiful setting. The aid stations were very well stocked and supported.

First of all, who would have thought we'd be treated to snow the night before the race in Baton Rouge, of all places? An interesting, special event for sure.... :o)

I found the BRB Marathon to be everything that it had been advertised to be.
* Relatively small (under 1,000 total participants)
* Very hospitable (great food and attitudes)
* Predominantly flat, double-loop course (neither boring nor difficult)
* Great swag for the entry fee (tech shirt, gloves, and socks)

The only possible item that could be improved upon is to keep working to better manage vehicle traffic on the course.

Overall, I highly recommend this race to anyone searching for a small, laid back, PR-conducive and super hospitable event!

"Fantastic. A MUST!" (about: 2009)

This was a fantastic race. If you like small marathons, you are going to like this one. The course is awesome and very flat. The food at the packet pick-up was great, but even better at the post-race party. The catfish and alligator were great. We also received a tech shirt, gloves, and socks at the expo. If you need a lot of fan support, don't expect much; but the ones that were out there were very supportive. If you are trying to do the 50 states, then don't let this one pass you by for Louisiana.

"Great local flavor... but watch out for cars" (about: 2009)

I agree with all of the other comments. It is well organized, with lots of energy from the local club, great food at packet pick-up and after the race. Smaller event that makes all runners feel important.

Two negatives: (1) One aid station was abandoned on the second loop. There was lots of PowerAde left, but it was self-serve. Not a very big deal. (2) It is not a closed course, and at times, there is a lot of traffic on the course. You have to be very aware, or you could be in big trouble. It's not any worse than what most have to deal with on training runs, but during a race, I tend not to think about traffic.

Great experience! I was humbled to see the RD and volunteers work so hard and smart to serve the runners. Every volunteer was enthusiastic. All worked as one team, demonstrating huge dedication. Worth the very reasonable registration fee, and more. Basically flat and beautiful course: two loops around LSU lake and campus. Much water fowl to view during the race. Nice colorful medal, great tech shirt specifying "marathon," perfect organization, and exotic food provided. Abundant water and food stations. Sufficient porta-potties. While in town, use side roads/traffic. I recommend this race for any first-timer.

"Great Half Marathon" (about: 2009)

This was a great event. The course was great. It was a little chilly in the morning, at the start. The shuttle service from the hotel and back was well run. I had to be in New Orleans right after the race, and they shuttled me right back to hotel. They had a nice, scenic course around LSU and lake.

Thanks to Mr. Watson for answering all of my questions, and thanks also to all volunteers. If I ever get back this way, I will for sure enter this race again.

"The best of Baton Rouge" (about: 2009)

I ran the half marathon and let me tell you: I have not see Baton Rouge look finer than Saturday morning, December 5, 2009. It had snowed the night before, but the race morning was cold and clear. I loved the way the course looped around the LSU campus and surrounding neighborhoods. Good food, nice shirts. I lived in Baton Rouge 25 years ago and felt that this race was a wonderful welcome back. I recommend it and would do it again.

"HIDDEN GEM" (about: 2009)

Amazing course - especially the second half of the loop along the lake. Great food after the race!! No doubt this one does not get the attention or number of entrants that it deserves. Perhaps that is what made it so great. PR on the course and great race swag, from tech shirt to socks!!

Definitely will be back! Minutes from the airport and plenty of affordable accommodations. Race Director Craig is hands on to answer any question and organize this hidden gem among marathons. The 16th year was fantastic!

"Lousiana hospitality at its best!!" (about: 2009)

Unseasonable cold and snow the previous evening kept the numbers of runners and spectators lower than expected. That didn't cool the enthusiasm of the host Running Chicken Track Club. Highlights included free food at package pickup, a keepsake timing chip, technical t-shirt, socks and gloves, accurate timing, a festive finish, colorful medal, and plenty of exotic and ordinary food and beverages.

Baton Rouge RV facilities are limited. We were pleased to park our RV at Farr Equestrian and RV Park, about 4 miles from the start.
