A Runner from Springfield,Ma. (10/29/2001)
"great scenery and well organized" (about: 2001)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

This was only my second marathon ever. I enjoyed myself immensely. The course, organization, scenery, shuttle service, and food was great. The course wasn't as flat as I thought, but it was manageable. It was nice to run and see the water as well as running in the town of Niatic. The wind was bad but nothing can be done about that.
Keep up the good work.

"Terrific marathon, I'll definitely be back" (about: 2001)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

This was a fantastic marathon. My only complaint, a minor one, is that the course was advertised as very flat - indeed, the course map says the 'highest elevation is on Haigh Ave. at 15 ft.' Several of the hills seemed 10 times that, and certainly were far higher than 15 feet.

That said, none were intolerable, the organization of the race was impeccable and the spectators were there when they were needed. There were ample aid stations (both water and sports drink), the turny course was well-marked, and the fast runners seemed to have no problems blistering on the (mostly) flat course. The wind was a bear on the way home, but the course organizers couldn't have done much about that. Otherwise a perfect day on a terrific course. Thanks to everyone!!!!

"wonderful marathon" (about: 2001)

If you are looking for a first-rate marathon, beautiful course, wonderful crowd support and overall good time, then look no further. The course is a little hillier than advertised, but it is so scenic that you don't really notice the inclines. From the time that you arrive at the registration area until you leave to go home, you are treated like a special person. I have run quite a few marathons, but this one goes to the top of my list. Kudos to John Bysiewicz and all of the volunteers.
