"A Perfect Marathon!" (about: 2011)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 If you are a marathon runner, this is a perfect race for you! The race is all about the enjoyment and pleasure of running. Everything from the actual runners to the volunteers, race directors, and spectators was phenomenal. It is a joyous atmosphere to be around. Things I loved about the race: 1. The route is beautiful. I thought I wouldn't like running on an out-and-back trail. However, it was not a problem at all sharing the path with runners. Every other marathon I have run required more navigating around other runners than this marathon did. Course is 95% shaded, near two lakes, and flat. 2. The medal is by far the best medal I have ever seen. Wow! That's all I can say about it. Race directors unveiled the medal moments before the race and everyone cheered and clapped. Fun! 3. Loved the pizza, pop, cookies, and family atmosphere at the end of the race. :) 4. Great t-shirt, bag, and cup! 5. Organization is great. Easy pickup/perfect directions. 6. Really liked starting the new year running a marathon on January 1st. Run Texas! Thanks, Steve and Paula (race directors) for a great weekend. Happy New Year!

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I either vounteer at this one or run it. It has a small, intimate feel to it. The race director, "Crazy" Steve Boone, is out there himself running, cheering, and having a good time with everybody else. It is a scenic course, if a little crowded. A lot of the crowding can be avoided if a few of the runners ran single file instead of two abreast in the more crowded sections. The four-loop course is spectator-friendly. At the second water spot, your family can stay right there and see you 8 times during the marathon (4 during the half).

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 For a multi-loop course, this was excellent. Race day packet pick-up, parking, and pre-race instructions were all on the money. We were on a neighborhood concrete path throughout with beautiful lake and wooded scenery. Weather was perfect; this was a great start to 2011. See you in 2012.

"Fabulous Day in Texas" (about: 2011)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Steve and Paula, thank you for a wonderful experience! The medal is #1 in my book. If this does not make Runners' World or whoever rates the medals for the year's #1 spot, then the system is flawed. This medal rocks!!! The food was wonderful, and the hat, t-shirt, mug, and rubber duck were icing on the cake. Keep up the good work. You two are the best!

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Great, small race put on by the best race directors in the world! Nice four-loop course through tranquil neighborhood. Nice views of the lake and parks. The organization was the best, aid stations top-notch, and the medal... WOW! Biggest ever. As the saying goes: "everything is bigger in Texas!" This is one to do - definitely!

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 Steve and Paula put on a wonderful event. Everyone was in a great mood, and race-day pickup was organized well and went very quickly. The course was beautiful - I know many people don't like running a loop course, but this didn't even feel like a loop. I enjoyed seeing other runners, especially on the out-and-back portions. The massive medal, rubber duck, the duck hat combined with the duffel bag and other goodies, easily made this the best swag I've gotten for a race. My only (very minor) complaints were that there could have been a few more volunteers so people didn't have to cross runners heading the other way to grab water, and a few runners/walkers needed better etiquette when trying to run 3-wide on a narrow course. This race is already on my 2012 calendar!

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 This race is very quiet with very few spectators, but it was my favorite race. Steve and Paula are super sweet! They talk to everyone and help out any way they can. My 22-month-old was crying and Paula took her inside to give her a donut! I just loved running the Kingwood Marathon, and I plan on running it again next year.... God willing! Thanks!

"Worth it for the Medal, oh, and Organizers" (about: 2011)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 This UK guy went all the way to Texas after reading about the AMAZING medal from previous years' write-ups. Well, this year's medal was even bigger, and a good pound heavier. It will look great above my medal board at home; it's much too big to put on the actual board itself. Yes, I agree with all of the things said before about the Texas Marathon. Thanks to Steve and Paula for a great Texas welcome. We left a freezing Britain, arrived through thunder and lightning in a flooded Houston. All over the USA was bad weather - deep snow, freezing weather in parts, floods elsewhere, and tornadoes not that far from us - but on marathon day, we had great running weather here. Everything was well worth the trip over, and I can't think of a better way to spend New Year's Day. This is my 115th marathon and I sure can RECOMMEND IT.

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was a great "little" race on New Year's Day. A 4-loop course on neighborhood trails, with plenty of course support and pretty good support from the small community.
