This was a great race! First of all, the course was wonderful and challenging. As many have mentioned, there were plenty of hills. The crowd seemed sparse to me at times throughout the race, but the people who were out were very encouraging. Both me and my wife got personal bests out of this one, so it was a great run for us. Can't really think of any drastic changes that need to be made on any levels. We look forward to running this one again sometime. By the way, the finisher's medals are HUGE.

My wife and I come from Switzerland. We are proud to have run the beautiful Little Rock Marathon. Great people, organization, and food supply on the course. Thank you, we will never forget it.

"4th Little Rock....This was the best of all!" (about: 2006)

What a great day to be alive! I have completed all of LR Marathons and this was the greatest of all. You ask why? I had the pleasure to pace the 4:00 group - you guys and gals made it what it was... awesome! I had people from Michigan, Chicago, Arkansas - and a gentleman that qualified for Boston. Y'all were the bomb! You kept me at my best... truly an amazing day. Thanks for blessing me - I want to do it again. I hope to see everyone again next year. Thanks for visiting the "Natural State" where things come alive. It would only be appropriate to leave you with this message:

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

"Early start suggestions" (about: 2006)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Little Rock Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 1  FANS: 2

This was my 24th marathon. Due to some hotel (late check-out) and travel issues we needed to do the early start. The race organizers were absolutely ridiculous about us not finishing in less than six hours, threatened disqualification and basically turned the marathon into a training run for us because we were forced to finish in over five hours. We spent weeks going back and forth asking questions with the race director about the early start and if we could have gotten our airfare back, we wouldn't have even gone to the race over this issue.

Here's a suggestion: start the race 1 hour earlier or only have a 1-hour gap between the early start and the race - not 2 - so you can let everyone use it that needs it. Most races handle the early start in this manner without threat. Your concern over having two races going on happened anyway, when you have the 5K race join into the marathoners, half marathoners and relay. What a confusing mess that was. That's also why you have chip timing. We would also suggest you rethink your intersection markings. Some intersections had none or were so poorly marked that we were unsure about what direction to go in.

The positives - great medal, finisher's shirt and race shirt. Small crowds but enthusiastic. Excellent, well managed water stops. Thank you to all the volunteers. You were awesome. The course is somewhat hilly, but it was expected. The small out-and-back at the end was dull but every race seems to have one of these to add mileage.

The treasured part of this race for me was having the opportunity to run with someone most of the day who was completing their first marathon. What a blast that was.

"Race was AWESOME! Photography Site HORRIBLE" (about: 2006)

I wrote a comment on the race last week! AWESOME race! Now, the photography website was down, then up... then unable to work due to errors! I never heard of this company before from any of the races I have been at/competed in. I wonder if the technology they are using can handle this large of an event!

Loved the race though!!!!!

"New photographer is horrible" (about: 2006)

We've had a team in the marathon the last three years. We do it just for the fun of it! We've always had a group picture taken at the end. We were really disappointed that wasn't offered this year.

Also the website to go and view the few photos that were taken on the course is absolutely HORRIBLE!!!! Please go back to the original photographer or whatever you do, DON'T use this lousy company again.
Thanks for listening!

"Wonderful, Fun, Challenging" (about: 2006)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Little Rock Marathon

2006 was my first Little Rock but certainly NOT my last.

The course was more challenging than Boston. Mile 15 was a killer hill but miles 16-17 were almost my undoing. I felt like I would fall flat on my face.
It was especially nice to have my name printed on the bib number. It really personalized the connection with the crowds. This is probably the best organized race I've run. The finisher's medal is awesome and the finisher's T-shirt was a bonus.

The only drawback was when the marathoners run into the 5K walker crowd. It slowed us down quite a bit.
But what the hey; they seemed to be enjoying their race just like I enjoyed mine.

The early start was great. I'm usually a middle-to-back-of-the-pack runner. The early start gave me a chance to finish with the younger, faster runners. I'll see you again next year.

"One tough course!!" (about: 2006)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Little Rock Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

This is a great marathon, but a tough course unless you are used to hills that don't stop. Of the 41 marathons I have completed, this is in the top 3 as far as hills goes. The organization is great and water stops very well supplied with awesome workers! The finisher's shirt was a nice bonus and the medal just rocks!!

My only criticism would be the area of town we had to run through was very "unscenic," to put it kindly. Boarded up windows, bars on doors and more barking dogs than spectators didn't thrill me, but oh well. It is a good marathon in the "long run."

First Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This was my first marathon and even though the course was incredibly challenging w/ the monster hill at mile 17, I loved every minute of the whole experience. The people in Little Rock are super nice and the organization of the marathon was top-notch! The perks tent is pretty cool also. Way to go, everyone involved. The only part that was mentally difficult was the long out-and-back strech that never seemed to end. That can go away as far as I'm concerned. Thank you for a great race!

This was my second marathon and it was wonderful. Great organization, wonderful hospitality and great spectators. The medal is incredeble. The hill at mile 15, however, is a killer.
