COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 This is the first time I've ever commented on a race before, but I had such a wonderful experience in Missoula that I felt compelled to share. Let me premise this review by writing that I drove over 2,000 miles to run this race for my 50 states challenge (this race was marathon #15, state #13 for me), so I had very high expectations. I wasn't disappointed! Plenty of bus shuttles to the start (it's a point-to-point race), sufficient number of port-a-johns, fireworks at the start (awesome!), and a relatively flat course with a hill from mile 13 to 14 with an amazing view at the top that made the climb totally worth it. In fact, much of the course was breathtakingly beautiful. Most of it is open with little shade, and even though the race day temps were high (80s-90s), it's a dry heat so I didn't feel like I was sweltering. Many residents along the route had sprinklers going, so it was easy to cool off. Aid stations every two miles for the first 3/4ths of the course with aid stations every mile for the last quarter: Gatorade and water at every one, and two gel stations. Some residents had their own aid stations set up with gummy bears, popsicles, ice, etc. There's not much fan support at the start and throughout the course, but there was plenty of it at the finish. The food area is blocked off to all but runners, and when I came through, there was plenty to eat. At the end, I lined up for a free photo and had to wait less than 60 seconds for it to print. NICE! I cannot say enough nice things about this race. I highly recommend it!

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I truly enjoyed running this race. Everything is a 5-star: the organization from registration to the finish line was superb, the course was beautiful, the weather was great, the community was kind and supportive, and so on. The race started at 6:00 am and sun came out slowly from behind the mountains a few miles after start; that beautiful scene will stay in my mind forever.

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This is a well organized race in a beautiful locale. The directors of this event try to go the extra mile to make it fun -like the fireworks display at the starting line. Totally unexpected. Great July marathon! COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 July is a great time in Montana, cool mornings and with a 6am start, the weather was perfect. Course was mostly flat and great scenery. Small town so the crowd support was minimal but those who were there were awesome. Unique medal and a nice tech shirt. One of my favorite marathons!

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my 11th marathon first time in Missoula. I ran the full and my husband ,son and his fiance ran the half. We all came away with the same thought about this race. This is a very well organized, well run event . The buses to the start line were prompt , plenty of them to get the runners there on time. The course was well marked ,the water stops well supplied. The volunteers were friendly. The course is beautiful. Gave us new meaning to 'big sky country'. We all loved this event. Everything was top notch. I had emailed the race director before the race and had a prompt reply. We stayed at the Campus Inn they gave us late check out so I could come back and shower. I highly recommend the Campus inn. Close enough you can walk to the packet pick up and bus pick up. We were so impressed with how friendly everyone was in Missoula. The restaurants we ate in were all really good. We had dinner at a Brazilian restaurant that had amazing food . Everything about this race is Awsome :-)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 The course is flat w/ one major hill at mi 14, it then flattens again and you are running in a beautfuil forested area. You then drop down and head back into Missoula. Organization: A+ very well done, expo was nice, parking was limited, informative website, buses are early 4:30am however they had coffee and were ontime and a short :15-:20min drive to Frenchtown. Spectators, The race finish in Missoula however you start in Frenchtown which is rural so if you are looking for 26 miles of crowds this race is NOT for you. If you are looking for a great mid size event which is well done, head to Missoula!

"A Marathon Runs Through It" (about: 2013)
11-50 previous marathons
| 1 Missoula Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 Here were some highlights: Fireworks at the start. Sun rising over the distant mountains. The only hill worth mentioning was so gentle and brought you up along a ridge line overlooking the river on one side and endless supply of shady trees on the other. Two spectators sitting atop their horses to encourage runners up said climb, which was also the image on the well-deigned race shirt. The number of spectators is about what you would expect from a relatively rural marathon, but their enthusiasm and offering of support (food and mist stations) was enormously helpful - one guy played his piano on his yard. A truly enjoyable event! |
