The marathon is a challenging course with lots of hills and wonderful scenery in various parts of the course. Enjoyed having the Marathon Manics as pacers, who ran the entire marathon!! The course was well marked and the volunteers were cheerful. The high tech shirt and medal were were first class. Train for hills and you will enjoy the marathon. Will run this course next year!

Very small field, small budget, but organizers put on an excellent marathon nonetheless! This marathon will surely grow into something special. The rolling hills were a real challenge. I loved the downhill finish. The sky is the limit if the community can embrace this event.

4 of the last 6 miles are along one of the busiest highways in the state, noise and exhaust are not fun. For being a premium priced marathon it had no street music or cheerleading squads, no space blankets after the run, little to no spectators along the course, and it felt like a ghost town after the half marathon turn around. Drink stations adequate, traffic management adequate, volunteers enthusiastic. Most walkers NOT welcome with a 6 hour cut off time! Changes will need to be made if this is going to be the first...and not the last Tacoma marathon.

"An enjoyable and scenic run" (about: 2007)

I grew up in Tacoma so I had to travel back from California to support this 'inaugural marathon'. For a first time event I was very pleased with how well it was managed. The views were wonderful and even the hills were a blast. The weather cooperated and gave us a nice cool day to run without any rain. I ran the 1/2 marathon course and enjoyed everything but the final 1/10 of a mile. This last section had several quick turns and was a bit tricky in my view for the end of a race. I would have preferred a straighter shot to the finish line. In addition, there was some confusion at the starting line since we didn't really know where it was (no overhead banner or marker and no timing mat). I'll be back next year to run the full.

"First Marathon and I had a great time" (about: 2007)

My first struggle; but I finished. I enjoyed the course, although the rolling hills test your mettle. Great enthusiastic support at aid/water stations. There were not to many spectators along the course, but all were great at encouraging every participant. The run was well organized.

Love the metal. (Nice touch making the 1/2 marathon metal 1/2 the full marathon metal)

I plan to do it again in 2008.

Beautiful couse. Too many hills for a first-time marathon. Will definitely do more hill training for next year.

Hopefully all critiques and observations will be taken seriously.

"Overall, a pretty well organized run" (about: 2007)

We got lucky with the weather. What about using small storage pods for the dropped off clothing (like at Mercer Island Run). What about a small change tent at the end of the run? Why no start pad to activate the chip? Bags at the end to pick up food?

"Where was the starting mat?" (about: 2007)

The start line was a li'l ol' chalk line.... Where was the timing mat at the start? Music would have been nice along the way too. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a inaugural race.

First Marathon

I ran the 1/2 marathon for the first time. Ran with the 3:20 pace group.

Made the run very enjoyable and fun because of their positive, fun banter - at least to the turn-around. Made a fun run out of the race. I finished 1st in the 60-64 age group - much of the credit to this pace group.
