"excellent event - great cause, course, spectators" (about: 2011)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Thanks to corporate sponsorship, 100% of race proceeds and funds go to breast cancer research and care. So this is a great, well run event that you can enjoy and really feel good about supporting; 90% of the run is through neighborhoods with lots of active spectators cheering you along - and you get to run on the beach as well!

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Overall, a very well organized race, the pacer for 3:20 was poor (went out fast and stayed that way for half of the race). No runners finished with them, if that is any clue, but great weather, and the organizers were great.

"Great cause and lots of fun!" (about: 2010)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Every marathon has its own experience. This is by far one of the most memorable marathons yet. Running for people you care about who had to face the challenges of having breast cancer made it worth the effort to run and keep going - not give up. This was the first marathon at which I actually had the opportunity to run on the beach... it was very breath-taking and made me feel very grateful to be healthy. The toughest part of the marathon was going up the bridge towards the end! Lastly, the crowd was awesome - very supportive. It was nice having your name on the bib. It made you feel like part of the marathon family. Also, there were plenty of water and GU stations, so I couldn't say I was thirsty!

"Great race all-around" (about: 2010)

| 2 26.2 with Donna: The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancers
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I ran this marathon last year and couldn't wait to come back in 2010. This is a world-class event with super professional organization and logistics. In addition, the crowd support is the best in any race I have seen. For such a new race, the beaches community has really latched on to cheer the runners. Even though I took about 6 hours to finish, the race went by so fast. I will be back every year to run this race. I believe in the cause and Donna has made this a must-do for any racer's calendar. The weather this year was the best yet. You can't beat northeast Florida in February.

"Unbelievable experience" (about: 2010)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was an extremely well-run race. The fact that it was for a cause so personal to so many made it all the better. The expo was outstanding. Crowd support was, too. The only negative comment I heard concerned the spectator shuttles out to the course. The course was varied and interesting. I liked the run on the beach and through neighborhoods. The bridge at mile 25 was a killer, however.

"Relay needs a little work, but still outstanding!!" (about: 2010)

| 3 26.2 with Donna: The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancers
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my third 26.2 With Donna. The first two years I did the half marathon. This year I'm dealing with a knee injury so I joined a relay team. The relay was an excellent experience just as my two prior halfs were. A couple of notable issues need to be addressed. Each exchange point should have a bullhorn or loudspeaker so that outgoing runners can hear their numbers called as the prior leg runners come in. I ran the second leg. After finishing the leg, no one knew where the shuttle buses were. We finally found them "...two blocks down and around the corner." The shuttles from the start line area out to the exchange points were a little tough to find. Other than that, 26.2 with Donna is still a first-class event all the way! On-course support is excellent, the volunteers are great and the City of Jacksonville welcomes runners with open arms. I'm looking forward to 2011.

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 Great cause and an inspiring group. Nice, flat course - and very run/walk-friendly. This was a terrific marathon at which to introduce friends to marathoning. We'll bring a group and come back next year!

"Getting better every year" (about: 2010)
4-5 previous marathons
| 3 26.2 with Donna: The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancers
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 5 This marathon gets better and better. Fan support has grown each year and actual runners this year grew as well. In 2010 they added a relay portion to the marathon. Adding the relay brought more people to the second half of the run in both fan support and in runners. Also added were runners' names on their bibs. Always a good thing around mile 20. Only negative was the lack of bus transportation to the run. We waited in line for over an hour and there were many people who may not have made it on time. We had to rush to check our bags and prepare for the run.

"WOW" (about: 2010)
50+ previous marathons
| 1 26.2 with Donna: The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This marathon rates more then 5 stars in all catagories. Aside from the cause this marathon raises money for, which in itself is a great reason to run it, the course is beautiful, the organization superior and the spectators and volunteers are equal or better than those at any marathon I have run (and this was my 165th). The attention to the runners is unbelievable; they go out of their way to make sure all of us had a great experience. Miles 1-3 are on a major highway. They have music set up along the whole length of this section, with volunteers cheering us on (on what could have been a very boring part of the run). Bands were all along the course, as well as more fluids then in any major marathon. I never was in need of fluids. The residents of the neighborhoods go all out to make us feel welcome; they had block parties, and cheered till the very last runners were gone. They actually thanked us for doing this run to FINISH BREAST CANCER. They gave out fluids, fruit and candy, and if you're a dog person like I am, you had PLENTY of puppy love as you ran (hard not to run over and pet all of them). Elite runners are given the lead to finish fast, but I think the true meaning of this marathon is found in the mid to the back of the pack. Almost every shirt is a tribute to a loved one who lost or won the battle with cancer. A lot of the women who ran had survived cancer, and they are such a inspiration that you feel energy flow into you as you talk to them. I rate this marathon 6 stars and it's one of those MUST-DO ones.

| 1 26.2 with Donna: The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Very well organized. The expo was an amazing event. The whole race from beginning to finish was extremely well organized. The course was beautiful; I loved running along the beach. There was tremendous crowd support from the fans; everywhere you went, people were cheering you on and offering you food or water. You could feel that Southern hospitality energizing you and motivating you to go on. What a tremendous event to be a part of... awesome race. Will definitely do this again. |
