COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Overall, I am very happy with this race and I am a three timer. It has improved each year and I plan to continue running it in the future. The paths along the river are mostly shady and flat. It is easy for an area runner to train on the course itself. One key improvement in 2012 was to have less turns, one stretch is now about 6 1/2 miles long! There are still a few turns that would be good to elminate. Two constructive comments: the mile 23 mile marker was misplaced, as it was too early. The marking on the blacktop could be seen about .1 mile further on. Secondly, I understand all of the fencing at the finish as there is a fairly large crowd to control. However, it was difficult for runners to have a good place to view friends/family who finished later.

"Great staff and volunteers along a hilly route." (about: 2012)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The organization of the event was excellent: signage, aid stations, and support. My definition of a flat course apparently differs from yours, but it was still fun. Lots of support from volunteers, fans and fellow runners! Most excellent.

"nice course, spectator friendly" (about: 2012)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 This is my 1st Fox Valley marathon but 9th overall. I've done Chicago 8 times. I really liked the tree lined course and it was great for spectators to go from 1 place to another. I love the Chicago hoopla but this is a great change and I recommend it. To better it I have a couple of suggestions. Have a clock at the start so runners know when there time starts. Another clock or 2 on the course at 5K and half for example would be nice. Mark the water/gatorade stations better with flags for examples to show which tables are for water and which are for gatorade. Wasn't sure what I was grabbing at. The staff throughout the course from beginning to end were fantastic. I will be back!

"It was AWESOME!" (about: 2012)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Super easy packet pick-up! I will actually wear this race shirt and use the gear bag again! Nice little expo too. Loved Pacer Jen with the 4:45 finishing time. What a great experience! I was so sad when I had to split off for the Fall Final 20 course. Had I known, I would have registered for the full marathon to run with her! Beautiful scenic course that was well mapped. Gels and oranges were actually available along the course...And I am a mid-pack runner! Great spots for family and friends to view runners along the course. Loved the awesome crowd support. People actually yelled out my name and cheered me on. Oh wait, my name was on my bib-Nice touch! Snacks after the race were plentiful and what a great selection! Awesome finisher medal too. I parked my car within 3 blocks from the start!?! When does that ever happen? (Just stay away from 'The Blue Goose' lot. I witnessed towing there...Boo!) Will definitely run this one again next year! My best race experience yet!

"Hotel suggestions" (about: 2012)
2 previous marathons
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 We stayed at Pheasant Run. I would not reccomend this hotel. I called days before to ask for an hour later check out and was told I would have to request the morning of check out. The morning of the race I went to the front desk to request late check out and was told I needed to request at 7:00 AM - the race started at 7:am. Not a user friendly hotel choice and would not reccomend or choose this hotel for future races.

"Great marathon" (about: 2012)

| 1 Fox Valley Marathon
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was a great marathon however the course could use some work. I thought as many others I spoke with felt it had way to many twists and turns. I felt like the course was too short causing the directors to make runners run in circles to get the desired distance. I had to step over crubs on several occasions almost falling once. However the people running the event were great. Once you entered the main path the race was awesome. Some minor adjustments would be great. Also September 16 is kind of early for a marathon it got hot at the end. All in all lots of fun.

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first time to run a half marathon and I would recommend to any first time runners to run this one. I loved the spectators they really pushed me to want to keep going. The announcer was great I had family waiting for me and the finish line and he had them laughing the whole time. |
