"RnR always organized, good STL course" (about: 2011)

The course, for the most part, was good. Nice rolling hills and goes through neat STL neighborhoods. A few comments:
- Lots of turns
- The last 4 miles of the marathon are along side the half marathon, at my time (3:23) staying on pace while running next to half marathon walkers was extremely frustrating.
Competitor Group always puts on a well-organized event, you get what you pay for. Typical Rock and Roll Marathon.

"mixed review: lots of fans, turns, and hype" (about: 2011)

Wanted to try a Rock 'n' Roll marathon once. Once is enough. Too much hype, too little (none) swag, and definitely meant for those who run the half, not the full.
St. Louis is a great city and it was fun to be here at the height of Cardinal fever.
The course had lots of turns, small hills, fans, and water stops. People staffing the water stops were *wonderful*. Traffic control was fine. The course was hard for supporters to get to if you didn't live in south city. Some of the bands were better than others (and there was one singer who made us all run faster), but there didn't seem to be all that much more music than at any other well-supported marathon. These other marathons have lower entry fees, better swag, better shirts. Shirt was white with uninspired design and they didn't have the right sizes.
Expo was crowded, took forever to find where to donate running shoes - information didn't know - and there were few give-aways or samples.
Corrals and wave starts worked beautifully, and there were lots of porta-potties at start, you just had to look on the other side. I was third in line once, and the second time there was no line at all!
Love running in St. Louis but wouldn't do this one again.

"Nice course, too many runners" (about: 2011)

If you need tons of other runners around and bands and rah rah RnR series is for you...it was just too much for me. Plus the headliner ended before I finished the Marathon(4:50) and they seem to only care about the half runners. Nice course.

"Great city, but poor consideration of neighbors." (about: 2011)

St. Louis is a great city and has become a great running town over the past 6 or 7 years. Decent crowd support and the bands were good, but that seemed to be the focus. There were many times I felt in danger because cars were driving on the course and I actually had to stop as cars repeatedly drove onto the course at several un-manned intersections. After looking over the course map I can't blame them. These folks were trapped for hours with nowhere to go.

"well organized & managed, but hilly" (about: 2011)

The Rock & Roll folks did a great job organizing and running this marathon. The locals provided great support on the course, every mile of the course. The music was great, distracting the mind from the pain (Thanks musicians!). I noticed around mile 6 that I heard my feet (hitting the pavement) for the first time. Be aware, this is a hilly course and may limit many from running a PR.

PS: A suggestion. The cheer squads were nice, but I like drum lines better. Can you add a few marching band drumlines?

"overall very well organized race" (about: 2011)

I was very pleased with the St. Louis Rock-n-Roll Marathon. I stayed at a downtown hotel in walking distance to start/finish. Well organized expo, gear check, bathrooms, wave start, pace group. Good fan support on course and big crowds in downtown areas. Ran through a variety of neighborhoods, including by Busch Stadium. Course had some rolling hills; a couple long gradual uphills but nothing too tough. Plenty of water stations. Race was crowded until half marathoners turn off course. I appreciated all the volunteers, security, and traffic control.

Thankful for volunteers at the finish!! Best thing I can say is that this was a large half/full marathon 20,000+, but it didn't feel that way because it was so well organized. Glad I rocked St. Louis.

"Well organized, but disappointing shirt and food" (about: 2011)

This is the first RnR in St.Louis, which is a fairly run-friendly town. It was nice to get off the beaten path-away from downtown, Forest Park, and Clayton;where most courses traverse, but these are the jewels of the city. Lots of residential neighborhoods, esp during the marathon, including lots of parks. Decent spectator turnout (nothing like Chicago, of course). Bands were well placed, well supported; I really enjoyed the music. Well organized expo, good vendors. I gave organization 3 stars as I was disappointed with the race shirt (pretty generic, nothing special for StL), and the postrace refreshments were disappointing in a race of this magnitude (bananas were gone, had some orange slices, bland whole wheat bagels, and water/electrolyte drink). Will I run it again? Probably. Will I run another RnR elsewhere? Probably.

Well organized from expo to post-race party. While the course is not flat, the hills are low grade, not steep. Race clock at every mile marker. Good aid-station support. Plentiful bands and cheering spectators. Really fun, and I hope to run it again.

"Very hilly somewhat urban" (about: 2011)

Hardly anything expo which closed 5 pm on Friday night. Not enough porta potties the start. Host hotel wouldn't allow late check out but had a great rooftop bar. Ugly medal. No finishers tee shirt. No swag in swag bag
