"Beautiful course" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

This was my first year running this course, and I will definitely do it again. Very scenic course, lots of shade along the way.
Volunteers were great -- very supportive. Not many spectators, given small size of the race, but that was fine. Given that most of the race is shared with cars, your family / friends can get to where you're running easily, making it easy to have your own cheering section if you bring them along!
Could use some additional potties at start, and along the way. (several people missed the start of the race waiting for the potties).
Well run race -- highly recommended!

"Beautiful half-marathon course" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 1

I just ran the half, but the Marathon course was more of the same type of running, so I'm sure it's beautiful, too. I was amazed at how beautiful Florida can be - this is truly a unique race. It is a rural course through horse country.

It's a small race - only about 300 marathoners and 300 half-marathoners. Still, there was plenty of support on the course and it was a well-organized run.

I will probably run it again - maybe the full marathon next year. It's an excuse to spend a weekend in Florida!

"Small town race with World Class support!" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

First, I ran the half.. so the marathon had to be twice as good.
This is probably one of the best rural marathon / half-marathon events in the country! It was well planned & organized with a course as scenic as Napa or Russian River in northern CA. Great people and a Great time. Thanks Ocala!

"A Marathon you'll want to do over and over again!" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This was my second time running in this race and I enjoyed it so much, that I'm here writing, hours after the race. If you are looking for a nice small race and great organization, this is marathon for you. Water and gaterade almost every mile, Gel, banana, oranges at least 4 different spots on the course. The course is great too. Some hills but it was so nice being out in the country. And the best thing was, the massage after the finish.
Thanks Ocala and see you next year!

"The course is beautiful and very hilly!" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 1

This course was a plesant one . The farms are beautiful however, the hills will get you! The race I ran was small so there were little spectators. We were fortunate to have our family there to cheer us on. Free masages at the end.

"Perfect race for my first marathon" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

Although I was unprepared for the hills (I didn't know they had such big hills in Florida, being from the coast) - this was a great first marathon. The weather was perfect. The organization was phenomenal and the fan support was awesome. If I can swing it with all of the other Florida marathons I now want to do, I will definitely be back.

"Great race in some beautiful country" (about: 2002)

This was my second time running this marathon. Ran it to qualify for Boston and succeeded. Great volunteers. Tough last 5-6 miles with the hills. Will probably be back in 2 years.

"Beautiful and challenging course" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 4

This was my second year running the half marathon. I love this course. The beauty of nature cannot be surpassed. And although the path is not lined with spectators the ones that do come out make up the difference. I had the good fortune of running near an 11 year old doing his first half (with Dad) that had his own traveling cheerleaders (Mom & sisters). I was only disappointed this year that I did not get my shirt or finishers medal...even being pre-registered and in the top 300 finishers. I must also agree that they need more porta-johns!! Overall though, this is a great race and I hope to make it an annual tradition.

"Great Course" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 1  FANS: 4

Very nice course. The organization is lacking in that they ran out of T-shirts (even though I pre-registered and that was supposed to guarantee a T-shirt) and finisher medals. The advertisement said first 300 receive medals. Based on the results and my finishing time I am guessing they went to somewhere less than 250. Whereas I do not run for T-shirts and medals, it is nice memorabilia (esp. the T-shirt).

The course though was worth the trip. The spectators were few; but very enthusiastic, as were the race volunteers.

Note these comments relate to the 1/2 marathon.

"What an excellent race!" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

This was my first time running in the Ocala half marathon. What a treat! The course was fantastic, slightly hilly but that's why we race isn't it, to challenge ourselves? Great scenery, a few spectators but the views of the horses and cattle more than made up for it. Water, water everywhere, seemed like you ran only a mile and there was another water stop. Porta potties, well they may need to work on that issue. Will I run this half marathon again? HELL Ya!!!! Make my reservations now for next year!
