COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my fourth marathon, and it exceeded all others in the most important ways. The organizers got all the details right as mentioned in other runners' comments. The numbers and enthusiasm of the spectators far exceeded the other marathons I've run (all of which were larger or similar in size in terms of runners). The band at the pasta party was excellent as well. The hills were formidable for me, but the spectators got me through it. The Cincinnati Westin is first-class. Thank you, Cincinnati, for a truly memorable weekend.

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Flying Pig was my first marathon and it was great!!! I had no family and friends actually at the race supporting me... but I felt that I had support the whole time from all the volunteers!!!! It was wonderful!!! There was a long stretch on the highway that was a little difficult... but they offered Clif Shots at this portion, which was incredibly helpful!!! Expo was great and well organized!!! A ton of great vendors and free stuff!!! :) Great course for first-time marathoners!!! Highly recommend!!!

"Great first marathon" (about: 2007)

| 1 Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 This was my first marathon, and there were several things that made it a great event. The fans were enthusiastic along the entire course, and the race was small enough that I didn't feel overwhelmed by the number of runners. The miles were clearly marked, and the water stations were appropriately spaced. The hills were challenging, but definitely manageable. I was worried about the hills given my training on completely flat routes. In the end, my time was better than expected. In my opinion, the only area for improvement for this race is around the organization of the start. We could not hear the announcements at the starting line, and it was unclear where we were supposed to line up - so unclear that we, along with many other runners, were stuck outside of a fence with the spectators when the gun went off. Overall, a great race that should make the city of Cincinnati and its race organizers proud.

"As expected, a great time" (about: 2007)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 Having read all the rave reviews about previous Flying Pig Marathons (a large part of why I decided to run this marathon - in addition to a medal with a pig on it, of course!), I expected this to be a good marathon, and it was. Organization was very good (though a bit chaotic in the post-finish chute), the course was generally quite kind (early hills are mild and most of the last several miles are slightly downhill/flat) and it was just a really fun time. Spectators were fewer and farther-between than I expected based on previous reviews, but still very much appreciated. Definitely a race very much worth running. Huge thanks to all the people who helped make this a great day - THANK YOU!

"Great Marathon!" (about: 2007)

| 1 Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my 7th marathon and I was very impressed. The organization was very good overall, from the expo through the finish. Having the race director at the finish line to personally shake the hand of every finisher was a great touch. As mentioned by earlier posters, the shirt size was an issue. The men's sizes seemed correct, but I wear a different size technical shirt than a regular t-shirt, so I had to exchange mine. My wife ordered a small, which was waaaaay too small. She also had to exchange hers. We went to the expo on Friday and didn't have a problem; however, by late Saturday this may have resulted in some participants getting shirts that didn't fit. I'm sure the organizers will correct this and this was really the only thing I could possibly think to comment on. The course is great! Most of the course winds through some very nice neighborhoods and parks. Generally very scenic, with just a few areas that are uninspiring. The hills are manageable. As long as you recognize that the course is composed of rolling hills and adjust your training and expectations accordingly, you'll be fine. Probably the best part about this race is the crowd support. I have run far larger marathons that had a fraction of the spectators. It's very apparent that the city really gets behind their marathon. People throughout most of the course cheering were awesome. Overall, a great experience. I would recommend this race to novice or experienced racers alike.

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Coming from Florida, we were scared of the hills, but they turned out not to be that bad (only missed a PR by 1 minute). The support on the course was second to none - thousands of noisy spectators! The expo was fabulous. The medal was one of the coolest and I love the female shirt (CoolMax). (The guys' shirts were not so hot.) Our favorite marathon - we'll definitely be back.

| 1 Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This year's Flying Pig was my first marathon, and I had a great time running. The shirt, bag, poster, and information provided at the expo were awesome. Being from Cincinnati, I was very familiar with the course, and actually drove it the night before. The only real "issue" I had was with walkers - I had to run around many people for about the first 7 miles because they were walking 4 abreast (or more). The start is arranged so that you can position yourself by time, either with the pace team, or your mile-per-minute time, and there is an area specifically for walkers, but many of them didn't go there. If those who walked would start at the back of the pack, after the runners, there wouldn't be nearly as much congestion at the start. I would definitely run this marathon again - it was worth it!

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my 7th marathon. I came to Cincy because of the great comments from past runners and was not disappointed. The organization was first-rate. The course was good, though the last 6-7 miles are somewhat uninspiring. The spectator support was superb. I've run similar size and larger marathons that had a fraction of the support. Overall a very good marathon that I would highly recommend.

| 6+ Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathons
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I have run many marathons across the country and this was one of the best organized events I have had the pleasure to be a part of in some time. Living in Cincinnati makes it special especially since I ran the first Flying Pig back in 1999 (my first as well) and it has become better each and every year. Congrats to everyone involved - organizers - volunteers - bands - spectators (all along the course) - and runners!!!! It was a great day! (oh - and the great weather did not hurt) |
