"Perfect Day" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 As other runners have stated... The 2003 Flying Pig was simply the greatest, most perfect marathon experience! This was my first marathon experience and because it was so wonderful I hope to run many more! Cincinnati really prides themselves on making this a wonderful experience for all people! I cannot believe how wonderful all the crowd support and volunteers were! They really make it happen for us runners! To whomever had signs all along the course with inspirational sayings... I will be eternally grateful for you! Those signs said exactly what I needed, when I needed it. I hope anyone considering to run the Pig does. There are no reasons not to! The hills just make for beautiful scenery and a greater feeling of accomplishment at the end! The only thing not perfect was, as another runner mentioned, the narrow finish! I got elbowed three times, with one happening right as I crossed the line! Luckily I was just thankful to be done! Thank you to the City of Cincinnati and all of the volunteers and supporters for giving me the memory of a lifetime!

"Don't Miss It!" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The 5th Pig was my 5th marathon. I've run Disney(2), Marine Corp and Chicago(Lasalle). I would rate the Flying Pig with each of the other marathons I have run. Of course, it helped that I ran a personal best! I appreciate the Clifshot pace group, Thanks George! I entered this marathon on a whim and did not run it with my usual crowd. I came to Cincinnati alone from Fla. to run it. I read several reviews that said it was a fun marathon. It lived up to it's billing. The weather was perfect. The course was challenging (nobody told me that Cincinnati was built on hills!). The organization was outstanding. There was plenty of fluid stops. My special thanks to all the police officers that kept the runners safe and the volunteers throughout the course that kept us going. The spectators and entertainment along the course was excellent. The only negative was the pasta dinner was a little lame for 15 dollars. I am glad I ran this event and have already recommended it to my friends.

"A MUST-DO EVENT!" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 Had a wonderful time! Unexpectedly, a PB, 12 minutes off my last marathon time! Truly ecstatic about the race organization, the crowds and pre and post-race goodies! Wow, an embroidered duffel bag, a glossy postcard, all you can eat hotdogs, etc. What a 'steal' for $55! Thanks a lot Cincinnati!

"The Pig made my first marathon unforgettable!" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 I've run the Pig in 2002 as part of a relay team and then the full marathon in 2003. What a great experience! The course winds through some of Cincinnati's most beautiful areas, the spectators are wonderful and supportive, the refreshments throughout the course are plentiful, and the weather couldn't have been better. One suggestion for next year: after crossing the finish line, there was a huge crowd of finishers and it was hard to get to the after-race refreshments. It seemed like a larger area was needed. All in all it was a great event that I will participate in again next year.

"WONDERFUL race" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I have run many marathons and this one is one of the best-organized races I have EVER run. The fans were great and they were all over the place. GREAT support! Good race for a first-timer.

"First Class in every way" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first marathon, and it will be hard to top it for the atmosphere and organization. Could start off on a straighter stretch to disperse the runners quicker in the beginning, but other than that, everything was excellent. Well done Cincinnati!

"Vastly improved course, best organized race" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This is the fourth time I've run this race. For those who complained of the narrow street at the the starting line, let me tell you that the new starting line has been moved to a much wider lane with ample space for runners. The part of the race through the industrial district has been cut to a minimum. The organization has always been impeccable. I have never run in any other races where there were official split times at every mile on large digital clocks. The volunteers at all water stations were fantastic. The fans at the residential areas were awesome. The medal was very cool. This is a pure race for the people as lots of goodies were given to the average runners instead of prizes for a few professionals.

"First Class all the way" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 For a race that is only five years old, it is really incredible how good a job they do in Cincinnati. Organization is top notch. Freebies include a t-shirt, very nice inscribed gym bag, beautifully done glossy poster, finishers t-shirt, and one of the best medals in the business. Organization on the course is first rate. Plenty of water stops and Portajohns throughout the course, not to mention gel packs, orange slices, entertainment, and lively spectators. Huge after party. On top of that the weather was nearly perfect this year! The course is no slam dunk. The bridges at mile 22 and 24 are tough. I would say the overall course is about medium to hard as marathons go. The only thing that I can see that will greatly improve this race is to start the relayers 15 minutes behind the marathoners. The start was a little congested and many of the relayers are entry level runners. This is not a good mix. Bravo to the organizers!

"A nice race, well organized" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 I liked this marathon very much. The course was fair, a little easier than St. Louis and Austin. It went through parks, along the Ohio River, and through some very pretty neighborhoods. The weather was absolutely perfect. The medal was one of the nicest I've ever seen. There were tons of enthusiastic volunteers, including two very nice ladies named Marcia and Mary Jo who took pity on me and drove me the several blocks to my car after the finish. There were lots of spectators on a pretty cool morning. My only complaint is with the expo. Instead of allowing you to wander among the exhibits, the displays were set up in a single winding row so that you had to pass every exhibit on your way to picking up your shirt. I prefer expos like Chicago and Grandma's and Dallas where you can roam around rather than feeling like livestock (a pig, say) being herded to its final destination.

"A first class organization all the way" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I had an absolutely great time. The course was challenging and fun. The race organizers did a fantastic job. I would recommend 'The Flying Pig' to anyone who is looking for a well organized race. The early part of the course is hilly but the view at Edon Park was worth the climb. I will be back again next year. Thanks for a great experience. |
