"Tough, hilly course, but very well organized" (about: 2014)

I though it was a very well-run event. We stayed at one of the sponsor hotels, which was incredibly convenient to the start/finish and made it very easy for my family to watch portions of the race.
The course was very hilly - I was hoping to BQ here, but missed by a wide margin. Partially because the hills took a toll, and partially because I went out way too fast at the start and bonked very early. Certainly can't blame that on the course though!
Overall I thought it was a great event and would recommend it, though have to reiterate that for me it was a very tough course - seldom was it flat, always going up/down.

"Challenging" (about: 2014)

Billed as a Rock and Roll Event, Expectations ran high, however this half and full marathon failed to deliver. I have run much of the course being local and can honestly say, it lacked great organization. The half marathon had decent crowd support but for the marathoners it lacked both support and at times even water. Marathon officials routed the course through some very hilly and tough areas of Raleigh down by NC State and towards Umpstead Forest. Heat was a big factor, although this was downplayed by officials. It was well into the 70's and mostly on open sultry road. 30+ people were seen for anything from heat exhaustion to minor trauma. I've never seen so many well-trained athletes walking, but again the local news said 'almost ideal conditions.' The courese was way too hilly for even the best of runners...
C'mon Raleigh, you have to do a better job next year...

"Challenging hills but lots of fun." (about: 2014)

This was my 12th marathon ever, and I actually ran a personal best, despite the many hills on the course. The hills added to the personal challenge I had set for myself. 1st, the expo was the best expo I have ever been to. 2nd, packet pick up was a breeze. 3rd, parking for the actual event was a challenge but leaving home earlier would have helped us prevent that issue. 4th- the spectators and bands along the route made the 26.2 miles fly by. 5th- the hills were numerous, the only incline that bothered me was at mile 25 because it had warmed up to almost 80 degrees by that time and I was just plain tired by then. Overall, great event and I would do it again.
