This is a must for anyone that wants to challenge themselves to the toughest mountain marathon anywhere. The young runners will be surprised by the old runners. I wake up and look at the mountain every morning and remember the feeling.

I just finished this marathon 2 days ago on 11/22/03. I heard it's the toughest course in CA. I was proud to come in under 6 hrs (limit 7 hrs). I ran this one because Santa Clarita Marathon got canceled due to the fires. The race directors Randy & Vicki Davis, along with all the support personnel were absolutely wonderful.

The 5 aid stations were well stocked with terrific goodies, and everyone was so encouraging and helpful. I was actually full the whole time. At the finish there was chicken noodle soup, cabbage soup, chocolate dipped strawberries, etc... Too much good stuff to list (can you tell food is a big issue with me?!). I gave 5 stars for spectators even though there weren't any because unless you're a runner/hiker, you wouldn't be up in those trails. Besides, who needs spectators when the view is absolutely wonderful and you're one with nature and focused on finishing the race. The race is limited to only 150 entrants. This was my 11th (but first trail) marathon and it was the most challenging but rewarding race. I've heard my next race (Catalina Marathon) will be easier!

Been running with Baz or in his races for twenty years and this marathon course is one tough SOB... When you think the climbs are over after reaching Bear Springs think again. You still have another 1100 feet of up to go. The reason the spectators only rate 2 stars is because they have to be as fit as the runners to go anywhere on the course. On those years I haven't run the race I've manned an aid station. I prefer running it... the drive is too tough on my SUV.

Ran this race in 2000. It's a tough hilly course, beautiful scenery, and stocked aid stations. No mile markers, no spectators, no bands, etc. My slowest marathon time ever, but I enjoyed it as much as any marathon I've ever run.

The toughest race you'll ever love.

I didn't train for this race like I should have, but I wasn't out to compete. I ran this race for the second time because I loved the people I ran with, from the year before. There's a lot of team camaraderie. People are always there if you need them. I've known Baz since I was 10 years old, and he always puts on great races. He always goes out of his way to please everyone. I've never had any problems with any of his races I ran. Its a tough race, but well worth it. I'd do it again and again. Unfortunately I didn't run this year because I was injured.
