"We loved the inaugural race!" (about: 2017)

My two young boys 14 and 17 ran this full marathon. We loved all the extras events that where planned for this event and the race itself. Yes my 14 1/2 year old struggled a bit but he still beat me. The director had a hard time putting all the details of the race as a 'race bible' but I must have figured out all the info we needed because we finished the race had lots of food and lots of fun. A lot of planning and details went into this First race. I'm sorry people didn't get the prize money. I'm not in that category for me a marathon is about the experience. I'm also sorry that it was cancelled last year it makes me hesitant to sign up this year but there also seems to be no website for the event yet. My son and I were thinking about bringing some friends and running it again. Yes we are members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Despite terrible reviews the year before, they collected money for this year's race and then 3 weeks before the event, cancelled it without giving a reason. We are out the airfare and all prepaid expense, and also have not receieved any refund of the registration fee.

Cannot believe almost a YEAR after the race, NO, prize money has been rewarded to the winners...what a ridiculous event!

I won overall female and was suppose to get $1,000. I have not received any of it. Just like other people have commented as well. The race director hasn't responded to any calls or emails. Yeah he is a scam artist. Avoid race at all cost!

I second that from the comment below. My wife was the top female in the marathon and should of received $1,000 for winning the marathon. A nice prize money. She did the marathon solely on the ability to win prize money. Friday night we get to hotel and no signs of bag pick up like they promised. I stayed up until 10 pm until they arrived at the hotel with stuff. I would stay away from this marathon. The organization was lacking, and promises not kept. They told my wife and I prize money would be mailed 7-29 and we still haven't received and they took down their facebook page to avoid bad reviews. I can not recommend this marathon to anyone. Plenty of other ones out there to do.

I wouldn't suggest this race if you're looking to make a BQ attempt, or if your family & friends are coming to spectate. If you are a member of the LDS church and looking to make a vacation to Nauvoo, then this is a good event. I registered for this one with the hopes of getting qualified for Boston. Unfortunately a volunteer walked away from the very first turn and EVERYONE in the race ended up running an extra half mile (approximately). There were plenty of aid stations, but I saw no medical personnel. The website said the race was limited to 1500 runners, however, only 54 signed up for the full marathon. The website said there would be prize money, but 7 weeks after the race I have not received anything (4th overall male). We were told that the extra distance would be measured and our times adjusted for BQ purposes. That has not happened yet either. There were zero sponsors for the event. There were a lot of nice people who worked very hard to get this race going, but unfortunately they needed A LOT more help to get it running smoothly. No information was provided to the spectators on where to spectate and how to get around. Our phones (at&t) did not get service out there. Jared Ward and Rudy Ruettiger were there. Rudy fired the starting gun, and gave a nice talk at the awards ceremony. Jared and some of his family and friends ran the marathon relay. It was very cool to see him out there as he flew past me on the country road! Overall, I enjoyed the course, though a lot of the back half was on gravel country roads. Hopefully next year this race will get some sponsors and a lot more support from volunteers and the surrounding communities. Almost forgot to mention the Friday night pasta dinner - it was good, plenty to eat and drink. Friendly folks to chat with!
