Winter Running Mantra #1
You look out your window and see folks wearing coats, you hear the wind howling, you remember the local tv weather person dramatically expressing the drop in temperatures, and you think, is it safe to run outside?
The reality is, it is only 39 degrees out (soon that will feel warm), the winds gusts are at 20 mph and are a steady 10-15 mph (not the hurricane the window drafts of your house seem to be hinting at), and though the ground is cold, it is clear of snow and ice (so yes there are other runners out there).
With these conditions it might be best to employ a 'winter-running mantra'...
Don't Overthink It
Don't let the local news scare you, don't let the general public think you are crazy, don't forget you too are human and can adapt and thrive in more than one environment. You are a runner, not a seasonal jogger, which means you know the physical and psychological gains from running outside are so unique (and superior to any other activity) that something as petty as temperature will not and can not stop you.
