Skies Clear For A Successful Atlantic City Marathon On October 13
ATLANTIC CITY - The skies cleared on Sunday, October 13 for the 2,000
runners of the 55th Annual Atlantic City Marathon who participated in the
half and full marathons that began in front of Bally's Atlantic City Hotel
& Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.
"The weather conditions did affect the number of finishers slightly for the
Atlantic City half and full marathons on Sunday, as well as the Shore
Medical Center 5K and 10K races. Total for race weekend was 2,600
finishers," Director of Race Services for the Atlantic City Marathon Race
Series Marg Mancuso said. "However, the skies cleared on Sunday and the
half and full marathoners ran determined, dedicated and delighted to be
enjoying the beautiful course that highlights not only Atlantic City, but
Ventnor, Margate and Longport, NJ as well."
Top overall male finishers for the marathon were Birhamu Tadssem,
Washington, DC with a time of 2:25:05; Moges Taye, New York, NY with a time
of 2:33:49; and, Felix Vazquez Jr., Bayamon, Puerto Rico with a time of
2:49:33.
Top overall female finishers for the marathon were Waynishet Abebe,
Washington, DC with a time of 2:51:53; Tezata Dengersa, Washington, DC with
a time of 2:54:39; and, Kelly Gillen, New York, NY with a time of 3:09:06.
Top overall male finishers for the half-marathon were Ayele Feisa, New
York, NY with a time of 1:06:11; Girma Bedada, Philadelphia, PA with a time
of 1:09:06; and, Tekele Gebreluil, Washington DC with a time of 1:09:56.
Top overall female finishers for the half marathon were Askale Merachi
Wegi, Briar Cliff Manor, NY with a time of 1:16:09; Cynthia Jerop, Coon
Rapids, MN with a time of 1:16:11; and, Meseret Basa, New York, NY with a
time of 1:17:00.
Top overall male finishers for the Shore Medical Center 10K were Jophiel
Roman, Toa Alta, Puerto Rico with at time of 34:42; Timothy Smith,
Hainesport, NJ with a time of 38:32; and, Steve Antczak, Northfield, NJ
with a time of 40:18.
Top overall female finishers for the Shore Medical Center 10K were Jennifer
Lucas, Edison, NJ with a time of 42:54; Stephanie Clark, Philadelphia, PA
with a time of 43:58; and, Samantha Zaretzky, Wayne, NJ with at time of
44:08
Top overall male finishers for the Shore Medical Center 5K were Jose Maria
Sanchez, Freehold, NJ with a time of 20:00; Eddie McCoy, Villa Rica, GA
with a time of 20:17; and, Matt Stopa, Egg Harbor Township, NJ with a time
of 20:42.
Top overall female finishers for the Shore Medical Center 5K were Fauve
Haney, Atlantic City, NJ with a time of 24:35; Michele Per, Egg Harbor
Township, NJ with a time of 24:48; and Arelia Paz, Ventnor City, NJ with a
time of 25:10.
There were 104 participants in the Atlantic County Council of Education
Association Kids Fit Final Mile on Saturday that was kicked off with
appearances by area mascots including Cha Cha the Frog from Rainforest
Café, Seaweed the Sea Turtle from the Ocean Life Center in Atlantic City,
Super Can from the ACUA, from the Cape May Police Department Scruff
McGruff, Ocean City High School Red Raider, Absegami High School Brave and
Ocean City Martin C. Mollusk.
The race on Sunday was preceded by a two-day Sports & Fitness Expo at
Caesars Grand Palladium Ballroom that featured exhibitors from all over the
country selling and displaying their merchandise including sneakers,
fitness apparel, energy bars and more, there were also informational and
educational exhibitors and speakers, live course descriptions and more.
