It's All About the Bling: Running for Finisher Medals
Elite runners do it for the competition, the chance to win and to enjoy the
spoils of victory. For the rest of the world, deciding to run in a race
can happen for so many reasons. Some do it just for fun or a way of
staying in shape. Some runners do it as a way to raise money for charity
or in memory of a loved one.
Whatever your reason, running a 5K, half marathon or marathon typically
doesn't come without dedication and sacrifice. Runners in training wake up
early to rack up the miles. Follow a healthy diet and incur the costs of
entry fees, or fundraising goals for the race they are training for. For
many of them this requires tremendous dedication and frequently pushing
your body when your mind says you can't go any further.
According to Scott Devine, an avid runner in his April blog post entitled
"DON'T MEAN A THING IF YOU AIN'T GOT THAT BLING.", "The finisher's medal is
symbolic of the obstacles faced and overcome. It's why we get medals at
the end of the race, when we're tired, sweaty, sore and most likely in a
bit of pain."
If that is true, the Atlantic City Marathon Race Series offers races worth
training for! Knowing the importance of a unique and, in many cases large
finisher medal, the Race Series got creative with designs back in 2012.
Placing 25th in Marathon & Beyond's national ranking of finisher medals
amongst some of the largest running events in the United States, this was
just the beginning of the quest to design the best finisher's medals to
hang around the necks of tired and sore runners crossing the finish line.
From blinking light houses to spinning centers, the Atlantic City Marathon
Race Series events have featured some pretty awesome medals the last few
years. To continue with the tradition, the 2014 AmeriHealth NJ Atlantic
City Marathon & Half Marathon features a huge custom finisher medal for
each race including the Shore Medical Center 10K & 5K with a built in
bottle opener and images that highlight Atlantic City and the Jersey Shore.
If a half or full marathon is simply not enough for you, run one of the
King Neptune Challenges to complete two races in one weekend and receive a
third Challenge finisher medal because, we know, it's all about the bling!
