Atlantic City Marathon to Makes Waves in AC
With Thousands of Runners, Spectators and Guests October 18 & 19
ATLANTIC CITY - Over the past 56 years, the Atlantic City Marathon has
become an Atlantic City icon as the third oldest marathon in the United
States. Annually, this race attracts thousands from all 50 states,
Washington DC and 14 countries around the world.
The 56th Annual Atlantic City Half-Marathon and Marathon will take place on
Sunday, October 19, 2014 beginning on the Boardwalk in front of Bally's
Atlantic City Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.
More than 3,500 runners will participate in the entire weekend of events
including the Shore Medical Center 5K and 10K and the AmeriHealth New
Jersey Marathon and Half Marathon.
"We believe the AC Marathon Race Series continues to showcase the City of
Atlantic City in a positive light," Race Series Committee Chairman Steve
Brog said. "The ACTIVE Network, a leader in providing resources for the
international running community, has recognized the AC Marathon Race
Series as one of the most scenic marathon and half marathons in 2014 making
it a destination for many runners throughout the country."
The event will be kicked off with the National Anthem being sung by Mara
Justine of Galloway, one of the top performers on Season 9 of American's
Got Talent.
Official sponsors of the Atlantic City Marathon include AmeriHealth New
Jersey, Shore Medical Center, 95.1 WAYV, the Milton & Betty Katz JCC,
Caesars Atlantic City, Bally's Atlantic City, Spirit Airlines, Steve &
Cookies by the Bay, Revel, Harry's Oyster Bar & Seafood, PowerBar, The
Press of Atlantic City, Atlantic City Weekly, AtlantiCare, Just4Wheels,
Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa, Tropicana Resort The Current Newspapers New
Jersey Best College Savings Plan, Kline Construction, Dandrea Produce and
Nirvana Water.
New sponsors for 2014 include Cooper University Health Care, Timex Ironman,
the New Jersey Air National Guard, Boardwalk Honda, Corona Light and the
Casino Reinvestment Development Authority.
Shore Medical Center will be sponsoring a 5K and 10K on Saturday, October
18 when runners will race down the boardwalk and be cheered on by hundreds
of spectators, family and friends.
The 5K and 10K will start at 9 a.m.
AmeriHealth New Jersey will sponsor the Marathon and Half Marathon which
will be held on Sunday, October 19 with a start time of 8 a.m. The marathon
runners will run a 26.2 mile USATF certified course that strategically
travels through the scenic streets of Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate and
Longport, beginning and ending on the beautiful boardwalk of Atlantic City.
The various distances offer a race for runners at all levels of fitness.
The race course and amenities including Gatorade, Powerbar Energy Gels and
water provide a safe, enjoyable and high - end experience for both new and
seasoned race participants. For those looking to break a personal record
or maintain a specific pace, the Cooper University Health Care Pace Team is
a free resource that can help them meet their goals.
Along the route, runners may add a little pep to their steps while
spectators shake a little more than just their hands as they listen to a
variety of live bands and disc jockeys during the two days of racing. The
live band element, which was added in 2012, was so successful, it will
return again this year with local radio station 95.1 WAYV and its sister
stations hosting local musical talent throughout the race route on both
Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19. Key locations to view the
race and enjoy entertainment include Steve and Cookies by the Bay on Monroe
Ave. in Margate, Harry's Oyster Bar & Seafood on the Boardwalk and Kelsey &
Kim's on Melrose Ave. in Atlantic City.
The weekend also consists of a two-day Sports & Fitness Expo beginning on
Friday, October 17 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday, October 18
from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Bally's Traymore Ballroom, 1900 Pacific Avenue in
Atlantic City. The Expo is free and open to the public and will feature
Boardwalk Honda's Honda Fit, a speaker series and over 30 vendors.
On Saturday and Sunday, the Atlantic Care Finisher's Village will be open
to runners and spectators and located at Dennis Courtyard at the Boardwalk
in front of Bally's Casino and Harry's Oyster Bar & Seafood. Runner will
enjoy complimentary food and refreshments and a Corona Light for their hard
work.
