   Japan's Ozaki wins Tokyo women's marathon (International Herald Tribune)
Japan's Yoshimi Ozaki put in a late surge to power past Yoko Shibui to win the Tokyo International Women's Marathon in 2 hours 23 minutes and 30 seconds. Yuri Kano would finish second in 2 hours 24 minutes and 27 seconds at Shibui faded out of the podium spots after sharing the lead through 38 kilometers.

Liz McColgan was the last British woman to win the Tokyo International Womens Marathon in 1991. Mara Yamauchi, a Britain based Japanese woman will hope to add her name to the list. Her most recent races show her as one of the favorites for the overall win even at the age of 35.

   Alemu pulls out of Tokyo Marathon (The Daily Yomiuri)
Ethiopian Elfenesh Alemu has pulled out of the Tokyo International Women's Marathon due to an injury to her buttocks. The 2003 Tokyo Champion placed third in both 2004 and 2005. This is the 30th year for the race and will be discontinued.

   Noguchi triumphs in Tokyo Marathon (CNN)
Running her first marathon in two years, Mizuki Noguchi was the winner at the Tokyo International Women's Marathon, winning the race in 2:21:37. The race is a qualifying event for Noguchi to get onto the Japanese Beijing Olympics team. Salina Kosgei was second in 2:23:30 and Reiko Tosa - the bronze medalist at the World Championships Marathon - was third.

   Banuelia Mrashani of Tanzania wins Tokyo International Ladies Marathon (IAAF Global Athletics)
Banuelia Mrashani of Tanzania is now the first Tanzanian woman to claim victory in a major marathon. Resulting from Tokyo's International Women's Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 17th, Mrashani's time of 2:24:59 was enough to break record for the race. Following in an extremely close second was runner Rie Matsuoka by merely two seconds. The excitement began at 39km, where surging back and forth from each other became the method in overcoming what is said the most difficult part of the race. Both Mrashani and Matsuoka are satisfied with the results of this race, but their actual goal was to make it to 2003's World Championships in Paris, for which they are now anticipating.

Banuelia Mrashani of Tanzania won the Tokyo international women's marathon by just two seconds on Sunday. The 25-year-old crossed the finish line in 2:24:59, a new personal best for her. She emerged from a late-race challenge from Rie Matsuoka to take the title. Mrashani, who turned 25 on Thursday, narrowly won a shoulder-to-shoulder battle against Matsuoka in the last seven kilometers to clock 2 hours, 24 minutes, 59 seconds, breaking her own personal best of 2:29:53.

   Chepchumba wins Tokyo marathon (Irish Times)
Sydney Olympic bronze medallist Joyce Chepchumba of Kenya made a long solo run after the 27.5 kilometre mark for a comfortable victory in the Tokyo international women's marathon this weekend. Chepchumba caught up with front-running Reiko Tosa shortly before the 22 kilometre point and ran with the Japanese shoulder-to-shoulder before starting to outdistance her slowly but steadily. She crossed the finishing line in two hours 24 minutes 02 seconds. Tosa came in second in 2:24:47 to qualify from Japan for the world championships next year, followed by Sydney 10,000m gold medallist Derartu Tulu of Ethiopia third in 2:26:38.
