Fighing strong winds, Yirdawe takes Kosice Peace Marathon in 2:10:51
(IAAF.org) 30-year-old Ethiopian Dejene Yirdawe dominated the 85th International Peace Marathon in Kosice, East Slovakia. The oldest Marathon in Europe was held in 35 to 40 degree temperatures and in strong winds. But the rain was no where to be found. Yirdawe would leave the pace setter at the 24 kilometer mark and finish his solo run in 2 hours an 10 minutes to capture the title and his personal best marathon time in only his third marathon. | ||

Strong African presence in Kosice Marathon
(IAAF) The International Peace Marathon, first held in 1924 in Kosice will see its 85th edition on Sunday 5 October. Last years race witnessed the first ever sub 2:10 marathon in the history of this event. The 2 hour, 9 minute and 53 second win, registered by Kenyan William Biama, was also the fastest in Slovakia. This years field promises to deliver another fast time with over ten Africans who have run in the 2 hour 11 minute to 2 hour and 15 minute range. | ||
