COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I love the Pittsburgh marathon. Most of the race is run in the vicinity of downtown, near the rivers where it is relatively flat. You cross several bridges and see many of our neighborhoods. Hills are unavoidable, but they are very minimal. If I were designing the course, I would have the runners shoot up Grandview Avenue to the top of Mount Washington, then wind down Sycamore, but fear not! (Akron's marathon has a far worse hill.) There is a bit of a climb towards the end, but it is less than a mile-long and very gradual. The best part: at the top, you are greeted in Bloomfield by a carnival at around mile 18 and then it is downhill to the finish. You will finish very strong, cheered by loved ones and dogs in Point State Park. | |
