"Beautiful Day, Great Course, Good Staffing." (about: 2013)
1 previous marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 5 A wonderful day. There was a small loop at mile 22 or 23 where there was no staffing. On this loop, after crossing the bridge there was a blue flag with 26 miles posted. This led to confusion with runners I was with. I finished the Marathon at 6-1/2 hours and things were being taken down. I was wondering if there were more than just Gatorade & water earlier at the finish? Hope to return next year!

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first marathon and I set a goal of 3:45 which I crushed with a 3:37 finish. I would recommend this race to anyone, as it was well organized and the people were great!

"Great course for a great run with great people" (about: 2013)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I loved the Fox Valley course on the path. There was a surprising comfort level of being on a run path for a race, it felt partly like a training run, in a good way. It made the miles seem easier. And the shade and trees and river views were a real pleasure. Everyone running the race was very friendly, and there was a real sense of community around the event that I felt happy to be a part of. I ran the race to try for an earlier BQ, and ended up loving this race for so much more.

"Great town, great weather, great first marathon!" (about: 2013)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Great overall race. The town was friendly and easy to navigate. I stayed in the Herrington Inn and Spa and it was perfect. The pacer that assisted me was helpful, friendly and on pace. The course was relatively flat with a few small hills and nice scenery. It had a few hundred yards of packed gravel with the rest paved surface. No motor vehicle interference. Most of the course was a trail. Miles 10-16 (approximately) were the only portion with '2-way' runner traffic. While it did not significantly affect my result, the last mile or two was a little frustrating because the half-marathon finishers who were running half as fast were alongside the full-marathon finishers. Overall, a great marathon and I would run it again.

"Nice Race, but Too Many Runners" (about: 2013)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I agree with many of the comments that have been posted about this race (nice organization, nice course, great volunteers, etc.). The comments I don't agree with are that the course is uncrowded. 1,300+ marathoners plus half marathoners and 20-mile racers are too many for a course that spends a lot of time on bike paths. Especially since there is an out and back section so runners have to stay on their side of the bike path. That being said, I still enjoyed the marathon.

"If you like hospitality put this one on your list" (about: 2013)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was my first marathon and I didn't want to be intimidated by a huge marathon. This was the perfect choice. Lots of lodging close by, beautiful area, helpers call you by name as you are going by since your name is on your bib. Lots of encouraging people along the way. They called out my name on the final stretch of the marathon. 'Here comes T G, give her a hand folks, she is a marathoner'. It was just awesome. There is some up hills in the 2nd half that I didn't expect so please include hill work in your training. I can't wait till they open registration. I want to do it again. Now I have a time to beat :) |
