"Pretty course, but too crowded" (about: 2013)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 The course is very pretty and nicely shaded. However, the course is very narrow and has two-way traffic in many places, making water stations very difficult to navigate. There is actually a walk way through which you must pass single file! The riverside trails on which the majority of the race is run are open to other users. This further compounds the problem. A woman and her small children repeatedly appeared on the course as if their sole goal for the day was to obstruct my path. The portion of the race in the first four miles that is run on the road is also partially open to traffic. This was a quagmire because the group was too thick to fit in the single lane reserved for us. There are nice things about this race but I would never run it again.

"Picture perfect!" (about: 2013)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 [HALF MARATHON REVIEW] My first half marathon so maybe not a lot to compare to, but I've ran a bunch of shorter races...fv26 puts all of them to shame. Great organization, no waiting for literally anything...fast packet pick up, convenient parking, close amenities, fast wave start, etc. The biggest highlight by far is the course. Flat, shady and soooo varied. Every time I'd get bored of a section we'd turn to a park, or go by the river, or hit the streets again, loved it. The river scenery at sunrise is just inspiring in itself. The only minor complaint would be a small area for runners immediately after the finish (need to walk it off a little! lol) but nothing major as you can just move to the expo to get massaged, stretch, etc. Other than that, everything was great! Volunteers, spectators super helpful and friendly. Just a fun, fast, friendly event. And when you add that course to it, it becomes 'Picture Perfect!' BTW...maybe its just the training but I'll definitely give some credit to the event for hitting my goal. Wanted to crack 1:45 for the 13.1. Came in at 1:42:22...so happy! Thank you fv26! See you next year!

"Course had a few too many twists and turns." (about: 2013)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Training runs were fantastic! All of the volunteer's, pacers for the training runs were great. Really enjoyed meeting new running friends. The facebook posts were great and the communication to runners was amazing. Disappointed that when I went to pick up packet all of the shirts were sold out.

"Great for a first time marathoner!" (about: 2013)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I was a first time marathoner and enjoyed this race! It is very well organized! For having three different races (half, 20 miler, and full) the course was well marked. Water stops were well spaced and numerous! Glad to have made this my choice for my first marathon. I am a slow runner and was slightly behind the 'back of the pack' runner , my only complaint is the water stops should stay open just a bit longer.

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Having run the half 3 years in a row, I have to say this has been the best course so far! Like the Start/Finish in the background of the bibs! LOVE having my name on the bib also - when you need encouragement, it helps when someone actually says your name! Wonderful race - can't wait till 2014!

"The Amazing Race!" (about: 2013)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my second half marathon and my first time at Fox Valley. However, I have ran in over two dozen smaller races and am familiar with organization and race day set up. The amount of time and effort that the FVM puts into this race is UNBELIEVABLE! I was fortunate enough to be able to join most of the FVM training runs and even the training runs were organized like races. I felt so much more prepared having done these runs on the actual race course. The amount of time FVM spent with Face Book, Expo, and email updates was GREATLY appreciated. I felt so connected and prepared for the overall experience. Race day itself seemed to go off 100% smoothly. The volunteers were incredible. The post race treatment the runners received was also top-notch. And, the medals are gorgeous!

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I highly recommend this race to anyone considering it. The race was very well organized and executed. I was surprised at the amount of spectators and support throughout the race considering the number of runners. I only wish they could have closed the paths to bikes during the race, as I was nearly run down a couple times. |
