"Great half-marathon!" (about: 2007)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 Course was awesome; there was a good mix of hills and flat land, and I loved the view of the Mississippi, Beale, park, neighborhoods and AutoZone. Weather was a bonus gift. Recommend opening more entrances at stadium. Appreciated the "express" line to food, but should have placed to the left and kept crowds to the right so that runners did not have to intersect with the crowd. Frustrating for runners and spectators. Otherwise, well organized. Thank you for letting someone other than the runner pick up packets. Liked the wave start. Also would have liked music to continue playing from the official race start until all corrals emptied through the start line.

"SUPER-CALI-FRAGILISTIC!!!!" (about: 2007)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Thanks to all the volunteers that contributed their time and effort for this challenging but wonderful event. I had a time of my life. The organization and hospitality could not have been better. Thanks to City of Memphis, the Memphis Police Dept. and all of the participating vendors for making this event possible and for a job well done! I hope to be back next year (2008).

"Great Race!" (about: 2007)

| 1 Memphis Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I signed up for the Memphis Marathon after my disappointing time at this year's Chicago Marathon. I think this race was very well organized (water, Gatorade, and porta-potties at every mile - WONDERFUL!) and the course was fun. There were some hills but nothing that you couldn't handle. I liked how the finish was in the baseball stadium with plenty of seats to rest after running. I also liked the fact that it was a Saturday race, so you could go out and enjoy Beale Street and then drive home on Sunday. My only advice to the race director is to keep the Friday expo open until 10 p.m. for people driving in after work. We had to rush to make it to the expo by 8 p.m.

"Love this race!" (about: 2007)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This is my 4th year running the 1/2 marathon in Memphis and I can't believe how much it has grown! Every time I think about trying another race, I feel like it would be such an emotional letdown. The cause is so fabulous that after the first year I signed on to be a Hero and will continue to do so as long as I can run! Great support on the course! The finish area was pretty crowded this year and I'm sure the race organizers will be looking into this as this event continues to grow. My only disappointment was the Heroes Lounge, which this year had to be moved to the Doubletree Hotel. We were offered less food and amenities than the rest of the field had available at AutoZone Park. Look into another venue for the Heroes Lounge! Fabulous weather, which we enjoyed immensely, since it was snowing sideways in Chicago that day!

"Great event" (about: 2007)
4-5 previous marathons
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 This was my first St. Jude Marathon. The people in Memphis did a great job: volunteers were happy and helpful and crowd support was good, at least for the first half. The police could have done a little better job with traffic. Seemed a few cops weren't paying that much attention to the runners. The course is NOT flat, but not extremely hilly. I liked the rolling hills, but they start to wear on you late in the race. The off-camber roads were a bit tricky; you really needed to hug the cones on the center line. The finish was cool, and the food was great! A PR (2:53:51) for me.

"GPS showed 26.5 miles. Otherwise, great!" (about: 2007)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 My irst time in Memphis and I really enjoyed the town and the race. It was exactly what I expected, except for 1 thing: I am very convinced that the course was too long. My Garmin 305 was off very early in the race (I don't know which miles were long, but some were long and some were right on). I talked with 3 other people who had Garmin GPS and they also said their watches were showing the course too long. Not a big deal, but with the age of technology, you can't be wrong about your course length. :)

"Worth the trip!" (about: 2007)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I came from Montreal to do the half-marathon. The course was more difficult than expected with more hills than I thought. I enjoyed every part of this race. Even if some parts of the city are less attractive, it is fun to go from old town to residential to a nice park. Great organization! Great fans and support.

"Outstanding Event" (about: 2007)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first marathon and I can't imagine how any event could get any better! The organization was great. The Memphis Police Department did an incredible job with traffic control. Plenty of on-course support. And, the marathon finisher's medal was impressive. I can't wait for the '08 event!

"Great Race" (about: 2007)
1 previous marathon
| 1 Memphis Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 I ran the half-marathon. It was my first one and I enjoyed it so much. The spectators were great. There were plenty of water/PowerAde stations and porta-potties along the way. Hills weren't too bad, either. My only complaint is that the finish line was extremely crowded and there was only one small flight of stairs to get to the free food and beverages. This may be how it is at most races; I'm not sure. I can't wait to do it again next year. |
