"GREAT 1st marathon because of lively atmosphere!" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Last April, this marathon was my first. I was amazed at the amount of crowd support all along the course! It was very unique having the various Nashville High School cheer teams cheering for you as well. The whole race was VERY WELL organized and smooth from start to finish. Since it is the Country Music Marathon, however, I would've liked to have seen more of the live bands that were apparently supposed to be there on the mile markers. In conclusion, this is a really fun marathon to run. Train yourself for the monstrous hills on the course though! Very challenging since a lot of them appear towards the end of the course!

"Great course, plenty to see" (General Comments)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The course was tough, plenty of hills to slow you down. I learned that going down the hill is just as tough as climbing the hill.

"Needed more music" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 5 I ran this race 2 years ago and felt it was organized well, but there was not enough music. I think I only heard 2 bands while actually running, and music is very motivating. Would like to see more performers.

"HIGHLY RECOMMEND" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Love everything about this race, especially the volunteer support. I am saddened that the course will be with fewer hills. I feel that I've earned bragging rights because I set my PR @ CMM.

"Tough course but a great time" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I picked the CMM because Saturday marathons are hard to find, and I don't run races on Sunday for religious reasons. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it was organized, and the crowds during the first 12 miles were about the most enthusiastic I've seen (I've run 16 marathons). However, there were almost no spectators from 12-18 miles, and only a few after 20. It got pretty quiet at times. I'm not a country music fan, but I found the large variety of music that was played to be helpful in distracting me from the discomfort of running 26.2 miles. The concert during the evening after the race was a nice touch also. The course was hilly, but I trained on hills, so I really didn't notice them much while running. I live at 4,500 feet altitude, so the drop to 500 feet made breathing very easy - I rarely felt winded. I found the runners at the CMM slower than other marathons I've done, as I ran 4:12 and nearly finished in the top quarter. Usually I'm right in the middle of the pack. I'd recommend this marathon to anyone who is looking for an enjoyable race - it is probably the most fun I've had running 26.2 miles!

"Great event from start to finish..." (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This year (2003) was my second time running the Country Music Marathon. It will most likely be an annual event for me, as it was my first marathon in 2001. The course is challenging but fair. The support couldn't be better. Between the bands, the cheerleaders, the medical staff, and the locals, there is no down time along the way. In addition to all of this, downtown Nashville makes for a great post-race party...

"I will be back!" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first CMM, and I entered when I wasn't able to the run the Mercedes. CMM was definitely the better choice. Everything about it was great. A well organized start and finish, with lots of folks cheering along the way. There were aid stations each mile, and they had any and everything you could want. Sure there are hills, but none were really awful. Around mile 20, there is a gradual hill that seems to go on forever. I drove the course ahead of time, so I knew what to expect. Rolling through the streets of downtown Nashville offers an incredible view of all the runners in front of you. That was a real lift. The Nashville Striders Track Club provides pace groups for just about any finishing time you could ask for. The bands kept things interesting, even during the couple of boring sections. The crowds at the finish, and an incredible group of volunteers, make you feel like you are one of the elite runners. The weather was perfect! I'll definitely be back!

"*@!^ Hills, But Crowds And Music Make It Easier" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first marathon. Luckily I live in middle Tennessee and when I read about the hills, I trained with some hill runs. This is not a course for a fast time (not that I could do it fast anyway), but the support was great. Crowds lined the roads and the bands (all types of music) were around every few minutes. Water and Gatorade everywhere. Next time have us run through some nice neighborhoods in West Nashville and avoid MetroCenter (boring!). Do not avoid Bicentennial Mall. How about the Capitol and a run down Church Street?

"Nice people in Nashville, #1 in Organization" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Organizers thought of everything: bottled water, fruit, bagels, Power Bars, Starbucks coffee, and all even before you started running (this was at the start tents). Buses were plentiful to transport us to the start line. Course was hilly but challenging. Great fans, but could use a few more from 24-25.5 miles. Great spread at the finish. GREAT time.

"Fun race, prepare for hills" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I prepared for this race thinking it would be a qualifier for Boston. At mile 20 I was a minute and a half ahead of pace, but then came the long uphill near the stadium. If you've trained on flat roads, this probably is not the course to try to PR or qualify on. The course was definitely a challenge, but the crowd support was great and of course the bands were a good distraction. The MetroCenter office park was flat but boring, as the crowds were minimal. Nashville was fun, especially the bars near the after-race concert. Elite Racing is the best! I've now completed all three Music races, and can't wait to see what they do in Phoenix. |
