"challenging course with amazing views and support" (about: 2014)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The runs through Roanoke and Mill mountain were painful but picturesque. The dogwood trees were in peak bloom, so there were lots of fragrant breezes. Copious amounts of support, no need to carry water! The last mountain was Peakwood. Brutal climb, but lots of support. Some meandering through Roanoke with a few surprise climbs, and you make your way back home. One of the best finish line festivals so far. Craft beer, live music, fantastic food and free massages! To top it off, Roanoke is a great town. I definitely recommend this marathon. But be warned, you definitely EARN your medal!

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I think this was my most enjoyable marathon ever. Mimosas and champagne on the course, great beer at the end, good support. Great views from the mountains and Blue Ridge Parkway

"Top-notch race... definitely worth a 5 hour drive!" (about: 2014)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This being the 5th 1/2 I've completed this year, I can honestly say that this is the BEST race, by far. My husband and I have run the race (either the 1/2 or the full) every year since it started and we continue to be amazed by the fact that it gets better and better each year. The 2014 1/2 course was definitely more challenging (and it was pretty damn challenging to begin with), but it was the best, from the organization to the ending in the park to the spectators... I mean, really... there was NOTHING that I could recommend for improvement. We always make a weekend of it, eating out, enjoying the music and atmosphere of this great city. Looking forward to 2015!

"Great event overall...one for the bucket list!" (about: 2014)
6-10 previous marathons
| 1 Blue Ridge Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 This is a bucket list marathon for you. 7000 + feet of elevation change, three mountains, and southern hospitality. Course support is awesome and the locals really help along the way. Only detraction from the near perfect day was the lack of refreshments at the end. Only fruit and pop when I arrived. Was told there was more before I finished, just 'ran out'. More food in the 'runners tent' please!

"Challenging, but worth it" (about: 2014)
6-10 previous marathons
| 2 Blue Ridge Marathons
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I ran this marathon last year and again this year. The organizers decided to make the race a little tougher this year and succeeded not only in doing that, but also in making the whole race better. It is a challenge, but it is an AMAZING race. Organization is great, getting to the race is simple and parking is easy with all of the public parking available, water stops are welled staffed and stocked and are very frequent, the race swag is great, and the RD shaking everyones' hands at the finish is a touch you will only find here.

"Great Event" (about: 2014)
1 previous marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I ran the half marathon and it was great. I've run a full and several halfs and the Blue Ridge half drew me in with its reputation. The course did not disappoint. The first hill was not quite as challenging as I had anticipated but it more than made up for it later in the course with the relentless hills. Great course and great organization. The full is on my must do list.

"Fantastic race, but be prepared" (about: 2014)

| 1 Blue Ridge Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I ran the half in 2013 and finished the full this past Saturday. It's a wonderful race, well organized with great local support. But take the tagline 'America's Toughest Road Marathon' seriously. The three big hills are challenging, but the smaller ones can get you, too. Still, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a challenging spring marathon. I plan to run it again and hope it continues to grow.

"Amazing marathon" (about: 2014)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Great course, Great volunteers. This race gets better each and every year. I completed the half Marathon twice in the easy years, before the addition of Peakwood Dr. I ran the full marathon this year and enjoyed it. Next year I need to revisit the half to say that I have completed Americas most difficult road half marathon. It would be fun to try to have the 10 k on Saturday and the half and full on Sunday. I would do the 10k and the half or the full. The courses are great and the volunteers are full of energy.

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Indeed the toughest road race I have run, including multiple ironman events! Gorgeous day, course and wonderful volunteers. Spectators we very supportive and friendly. The concert after was well worth the extra $. Roanoke is very nice...highly recommend host hotel, pay a little more and leave you car Friday and return to it Sunday! |
