"Amazing Race!" (about: 2014)
4-5 previous marathons
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first year running the Blue Ridge (half) and I can't wait for the full marathon next year. The course was tough but beautiful and very interesting. The volunteers, residents, and spectators were phenomenal...seriously the most fun, supportive, and motivating group. The water/food/bathroom stops were extremely plentiful and awesome...and the unofficial support stops by local businesses and residents were great. I've done a lot of half and full marathons and this race has been my favorite...I can't wait for 2015! Thanks to the race organizers for a wonderful event and to Roanoke...I enjoyed visiting the city and local establishments as well. Congrats runners!

"She'll be coming round the mountain" (about: 2014)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This race is other-worldly. It is every bit as beautiful as it is brutal, and it is replete with scenic vistas that capture your heart as quickly as they offer a brief reprieve from the travails of the day. i was floored by the crowds, the aid stations, the wonderfully patient southern drawl of the elderly woman working the table at the top of Roanoke Mountain, as though she wanted to hold on to each word just a moment longer before she let it go; this race was so 'Roanoke' and so very 'Virginia.'

"A Unique Marathon Experience" (about: 2014)
3 previous marathons
| 1 Blue Ridge Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I'm about 95% trail runner but have always wanted to do this race because of the challenge and eventness that is the Blue Ridge Marathon. I was finally able to schedule it this year and my experience was completely positive. It is amazing to me the organization that goes into this race to ensure that the most challenging road elevations are a part of it. No small feat. And the race itself is well managed with lots of support and community involvement. I think that is what made it so fun for me. You just don't experience that kind of community support in a trail race, and it really was special. The race itself is completely challenging. I've never done a flat marathon before so I really don't have anything to compare it to, but needless to say with the elevation changes in the BRM it takes everything you've got to get through. I have to say that I loved finishing the race in Roanoke's new outdoor amphitheater plaza. Plenty of end of race support, beer and food, and music. It was very festive. While I was training for it I figured this would be a one and done thing for me, back to the trails. But, after such a great race experience I think I'll be back next year if at all possible.

"Awesome race" (about: 2014)

| 2 Blue Ridge Marathons
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I live in Roanoke. I train in the course all the time. It never amazes me how tough and beautiful it is. This is the only road race that I do. It is a hug challenge. You cannot underestimate the course. The last 5 miles are no joke, either. The organization and everything has been perfect.

"This race is a memory-maker!" (about: 2014)

| 1 Blue Ridge Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Some races are just races - you go and run and get your time and your done. Not this one. There is so much enthusiasm from the time you sign up and begin getting updates until well after you cross the finish line. The course is scenic at every step, from inner city to wooded mountain top. The support from organizers, volunteers, the community, and fire/police/rescue is continuous and ever-present. I lost track of how many high fives, posters, and words of encouragement I met over the 26.2 miles. The race organizers really go out of their way to anticipate all your needs and all those little extras that will make the race a worry-free and enjoyable run. Best of all, this is a challenging race, and no matter what your finish time, you have bragging rights for surviving it!

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Roanoke in late April is simply stunning; it was like running in a postcard. The locals - including the police force and all volunteers - were really terrific; thank you! This was a bit of a crazy one to take on for a second marathon but I made it through and can't wait to do it again next year.
