COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I had the privilege to guide a 10 mile leg for a visually impaired friend and training partner. He was going for a BQ and had put in the work to pull it off. The race officials were very accommodating in providing three additional bibs for a guiding team (two journeymen and a ringer if you wondered why a talented local young fella was meandering around out there). The trail, turns and river crossing are lovely but tested the guide team's abilities. I had to run back 10 from my leg so I ended up doing the 20 mile distance which is perfect as a supported long run before Chicago. The good news is our runner BQed and there is very nice marathon in the Fox Valley.

"Best Race Ever" (about: 2013)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I love this race. I look forward to it every year whether I'm a runner or a spectator. I ran the 20 mile this year and thought the race went very well. The course was clearly marked and the volunteers were very helpful and supportive. The race organizers exceed in enthusiasm and an attention to detail. The announcer makes the run across the finish like feel like your coming home. A splendid day!

"4 year running best managed race" (about: 2013)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Great race. I know pacers are not a dime a dozen but could maybe have a few for the 20 milers - we have nothing after 10 miles. Other than that great course & management.

"I ran the Half Marathon as my first race ever!" (about: 2013)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The 2013 race was my first race ever. I did a crash 8 week training only. I beat my target finish time and finished strong. I consider my first race successful mainly to how the race was organized and executed. The volunteers were there all the way for the runners. The water pits were appointed well I had no hydration issues. I like that they instructed me to drink water first Gatorade next or vice versa. Helps a lot for a novice like me. This finish line was awesome. The course was beautiful to run. A great first experience for me. Will run this race again next year.

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 The Half Marathon course had a few tight corners and narrow lanes to navigate. The post-race goodies were okay. Wish they offered chocolate milk.

"Foxingly fun!" (about: 2013)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Highly recommend this marathon. The 'Dine and Dash' was an excellent idea, especially if you are traveling from out of town. My hosts, Katie, Mike and Gina were so gracious. At the starting line, was a coffee shop...great planning! Getting to the start and parking was easy. Tons of porta potties at the start. Great crowd support on the course. Name was printed on the race number so you felt like all YOUR friends were there cheering for you. This is a good marathon for the first timer or the seasoned runner.

"Great 1st Marathon" (about: 2013)

| 1 Fox Valley Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first marathon and I think I picked the right race to run... great course (very few hills, awesome shade, and scenic to boot!) and everyone - spectators, volunteers, racers - was amazing. I loved that it was large enough to feel like a big deal, but not so large that it was impersonal. The spectators were so awesome - cheering us on the whole way. And so were the volunteers - really, really terrific people. Thank you so much for a great race Fox Valley!

"Pretty riverside course without a lot of noise." (about: 2013)

| 2 Fox Valley Marathons
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 It's a scenic out and back course along the Fox River in the western suburbs of Chicago. I wouldn't recommend this race for first timers, as there aren't a lot of spectators, 'energy zones,' or finish-line glory. But if you run for peace and serenity, then this is a good race for you. Much of the route is tree-lined through paved trail systems. There are some rolling hills that keep things interesting, but nothing to brag about. There are a sufficient amount of aid stations and volunteers around.

"Great marathon!" (about: 2013)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Combination of great organization, beautiful course, just right size of both race and spectators(for me; I don't like a Wellesley Girls - type crowd), and proximity to home makes this marathon one of the best. I walk today all the marathon, and even at a full noon sun it was still tolerable, because it goes mostly in woods. |
