"A Great Race!" (about: 2012)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Fox Valley Marathon

This was my fourth marathon, but first Fox Valley. I loved everything about it. From all the pre-race communication, to the course, to the spectators, to the post race goodies! Small, very well organized race that I would recommend to all.

"Overall - great, one small blip" (about: 2012)

I totally enjoyed this course. It was beautiful and wooded. The one small blip was the tight turn to get over the bridge for the finish. I think it would be safer to have the runners not be on the sidewalk at that point. The turn is too tight and there is a problem with the pavement. A volunteer was warning people, but quite a few must have wiped out (myself included). The street at that section is closed anyway, so just have the runners finish on the street. Safer.

My goal was to qualify for Boston and I did. So thank you for the great experience.

It would be nice to have a vendor who does engraving for medals. Fox Cities in Appleton had one onsite.

"Organization & Spectators rate a 10!" (about: 2012)

Course is a little tight in the beginning, but the organization and the amount of spectators, ACTIVE, CRAZY SUPPORTIVE SPECTATORS, make this a must-do race for all runners.

Come run one of the three races this event puts on. Bring your family, your signs, your cowbells, and enthusiasm. You won't be sorry!

"Excellent close-to-home course" (about: 2012)

Local pacet pickup-NOT in downtown Chicago. Great course along the river. I would highly recommend either the full or half. Nice local race with spotty support along the route. LOTS of food at the end of the race. Name is announced as you cross the finish-AWESOME! Also you can get printed receipt with your time.

"Course was LONG!" (about: 2012)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Fox Valley Marathon

It was a beautiful day, nice course along the river, very shady. My only complaint was that it was 26.45 miles. Most everyone had between that and 26.5 on their watches. I'm hoping to get into Boston today but that extra 2 minutes might hurt me.

"The race was well organizaed." (about: 2012)

The half marathon course was well laid out and the volunteers at aid stations were very well preapared. I also appreciated the extra port-a-johns at the start line.

"well organized, course still in development" (about: 2012)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Fox Valley Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

The volunteers and organizers did a fantastic job this year. It is very easy to get to and navigate around 'race village.' spectators were great. Water stations abundant. In the early miles there could have been more porta potties at that first station. Maybe 4 next year. Also, the course feels like it is still in development - the running around the parking lot is a little lame. Hopefully as the race gets more credit from the city you can use more roads to complete the distance. Once we get on the path though it was great very pretty and easy for spectators to come and go. Very fun. And mile 14-26 were awesome (except for the contstruction zone at mile 24! Yikes. Dangerous on the footing).

"Great course with top notch spectator access!" (about: 2012)

A beautiful course along the Fox River Trail offering scenery as well as spectator access all along the route. Combine that with an army of world class volunteers and it's no wonder this is top 25 midwest marathon.

I have run the Fall 20 for the last 3 years and it is a great way to prepare for the upcoming Chicago Marathon.

"Fantastic small marathon!" (about: 2012)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Fox Valley Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

If you like smaller, no frills marathons, then this one's for you. The organization was fantastic, volunteers were encouraging, and the course was mostly shaded on a bike path through forest preserves and along a river. My husband was able to drive up and down the course and see me 8 or 9 times with no problems! I like that our names were on our bibs b/c many spectators and volunteers cheered me on by name. The only con was that there were a lot of tight turns especially at the turn around and there was construction on the path around mile 24 for about .10 mile, which made the footing uneven.
