"Mostly flat course. Outstanding organization." (about: 2013)

I was registered to run the Dallas marathon when it was cancelled due to weather. I contacted Chris (race director) and received immediate response. He and the BCS marathon were super supportive and very responsive to all my questions. In talking with other runners who had been registered for Dallas, but were able to make it into the BCS, my experience was not unique. My suspisions of a very hands-on race director who really cares about the runners' experience were confirmed when, while in line to pick up my race packet at the expo, I met Chris as he was walking around making himself available for any questions. The one thing I would suggest to improve this great event would be a little more training for the volunteers (Note: I did say VOLUNTEERS) at the water stops about some preferred ways to hand off the water / gatoraide. Having said that, it was 33 degrees at the start, and I can't imagine how these wonderful volunteers did what they did; as they were undoubtedly splashed and sloshed with liquids throughout the morning they must have been freezing.

After many half marathons, this was the first form my wife and me. We were thrilled with the communication from the director and organizers, the race route was well planned and fun and the student groups were outstanding. Could not have asked for a better race!

"Best Race I've Run" (about: 2013)

I ran this race for the first time this year and will be back for sure. The organization is amazing and there is great communication with the runners. The course is pretty, lots of spectator support, great after party, and great swag. Most of all, it supports a great cause and the race organizers are accessible and responsive to runner's needs, going the extra mile to help folks have a good experience. This past year they offered free deferrals to runners who could not travel due to bad weather. Who does that?

"Not the best I've run..." (about: 2013)

This is the 9th marathon I have run in various places across the country-both larger and smaller ones. The expo was small and vendors leaving before registration was over. The course is pretty flat, but a bit boring. Myself and others noted some problems with signage - esp. with cones (provided inconsistent directions as to what side to run on). Lack of spectator support, esp. when it was critical. Promised music/bands, but they were lacking. To be fair, it was a cold day so there were probably cancellations. On the positive, the water stations and large finishers medal were great. I was cold after the race and had to leave because I didn't see any building to escape to or directions to heaters/the end party. I did place for an age-medal, but apparently I will not receive it because I didn't know about it and left... How could I have known? And I live out of town. In other races I have always seen results at finish to pick up award or they were sent to me. This is a smaller marathon trying to boost its image, which I admire, but some of the other reviews and comments are a bit over the top. It is not the worst marathon, but it also has some improvements to make. Be real.

First Marathon

This was my first half marathon and I heard about it from a friend and decided this summer that I wanted to cross running a half marathon off my bucket list. After the the race experience and the feelings I felt on race day I know that this won't just be a one time deal. It sounds crazy but I enjoyed all 13.1 miles and I totally believe that the volunteers and supporters of this race made that possible!! I plan on running in next years race if my schedule permits!

Loved it! This was my 1st full marathon and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Chris and his team put together a wonderful event. Even with freezing weather, there was a great crowd and lots of encouragement along the route.

They also do a spectacular job staying linked in with us as participants. They kept us up to date on anything race related and gave encouragement throughout the months leading up to the race. They were also very good with communication the week leading up to the race with all the inclement weather we had come in the days prior to the race.

Most definitely will run again! It is awesome that we have a well ran race in our backyard!

"Best race ever" (about: 2013)

Every single detail about this race has been well thought out and executed. Each year gets better and better. The time and thought spent creating this race is an endurance athlete's dream. This is not another race organization who is just out to make a ton of money, they truly care about the participants' experience. The fact that the race organizer is an Aggie and putting so much hard work In to making the world a better place for children makes the experience that much better
